Hey everyone :). xyxwave I have a '14 500L Easy automatic, love it.

Having a (hopefully) small issue with mine, I have a service appointment for next week but I'm trying to be a little informed as I'm not totally car savvy.

The past few months, it seems that after I back out of a parking space or when braked for a period of time (5min+), when I go to pull forward the car might hesitate for a second and then try to surge forward a few feet. It occasionally seems to be buck a little when stopped. I've read that some people have the surging experience with this car, usually before it's warmed up.
Last weekend the car sat at the airport while I was out of town for four days. I got to it, warmed it up a long time while scraping ice off of it :hurt: and was on the road for about an hour before I stopped for something to eat. I was waiting in the drive thru, and the car bucked slightly a couple of times. I got my food, pulled forward a few feet until I braked at a stop sign, and then tried to accelerate but it just wouldn't...go anywhere. I thought I was in neutral (it wasn't revving though) but I looked down and I was in drive, the dash gave a message of "Put in neutral before putting in drive or reverse". So I did that, nothing, I put it in park and back in drive, nothing. I put it back in park and turned it off. Gave it a second, tried to start it up again, and it wouldn't start. Tried a few times, nothing. I gave it about 5 minutes, and then it came back on totally normal. I headed home and it has seemed relatively normal since then. I'm kind of afraid to be stopped for too long though and see if it happens again.
Any ideas on what could be going on with it? Thank you, I appreciate any help!

Iirc there was a recall for the issues you are having- did your vehicle have it done? http://www.fiat500usa.com/2014/03/fiat-500l-transmission-recall.html

Let us know how you made out.

Welcome Crazedfia! Make sure you get all the updates; enter your VIN number here to check. https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls.html

Also research on the driving technique for the DDCT as it's not your typical automatic. Love mine by the way.

I had the very same sort of problem recently......took it to the studio, there was a fresh transmission update that needed done, they performed it....it's fine now....shifts better than ever and no surges, at all. The mechanics told me, all of the 14 500L's will get the update, as they roll in for service. But, it's not yet an actual recall. This is as recent, as the last couple months that it was released.

I hope your future upcoming appointment, will take care of your problem too. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the responses :). I did see that recall and according to my VIN the repair has been completed. It wasn't mine then though, I bought it lightly used, it was at a dealer so I guess there's a possibility it wasn't done. If there's a new transmission update that's come up in the past few months, that hasn't been done though. I'll mention it when I go in!
I'm bringing it to a local Mopar service shop- they should be able to do anything it needs, right? My studio is no longer servicing Fiats.

Not necessarily- I'm assuming your 500L is still under warranty and if it is, you need to get the workdone at an authorized studio/dealer. FIAT has added dealers- a number of Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep dealers have taken on FIAT. I'd go the FIATUSA website, click on Find a Dealer, plug in your zip code and see if there's a dealer/ studio near you.

Thank you, I have a 2014 500l and it does that same no go thing whenever, it can be totally warmed engine or cold. Driving along and puff no more acceleration. It's freaky!
My dealership knows nothing of this voluntary recall, so thank you all for helping me out!

You are welcome, Midori71. And welcome to the forum. Let us know, how things turn out. My 500L Easy, is running and driving like a dream, still. I love it, very fun to drive! And it is a very stable, and dependable vehicle, once any bugs are sorted out. Since I bought mine, I have already driven it more than 10,000 miles...after the updates, flawless. :)

I meant to come back and update, I brought it up to the dealer and they did agree all it needed was the updates. Since then no problems really!
Thank you guys!
