The SCCA Nationals are coming up in September, and a quick look at registration in G Street shows NO Abarths this year out of I think 24 cars.

http://www.scca.com/events/1981888-2016-tire-rack-solo-national-championship-presented-by-garmin-virb/entry_list

Lots of Focus STs, some VW GTIs, Mazda3, older Hyundai Genesis, but no FIATs.

I didn't check STX and the other classes for Abarths.

My son and his buddy Jason will be in ES with their Miata, along with 53 other drivers, so they will have some tough competition for sure. If you're interested in more Autocross stuff you can check out our blog at the link in my signature.

Considering what a local chapter has said against 500 ABARTHs running in GS... I can't say I blame anyone not wanting to run.

I don't know if the same local "ruling" will apply next year with the 500 ABARTH moving to HS.

the Central Carolina Region that didn't allow Abarths in 2013 finally changed their mind

How long are the seasons? Do I have to be at every event? I am very interested but will be gone all of September and half of October.

Oh and what class would Fiat be in? Would be my first time running if you haven't figured out

After competing the complete 2014 Season in GS, and other ABARTHs since then in GS, they are telling them they cannot compete.

Even though the national ruling body allows the 500 ABARTH in GS.

Anyone know why?

No trouble from my region; I've run mine in GS twice, I think, when the Roush was broken.

The Central Carolina Region was just because of one guy running the Solo program who thought they were unsafe. I wrote a letter to SCCA at the time, and the SCCA National ruling was that local regions CAN make such determinations.

Each SCCA region, or local car club if they're not in SCCA, typically runs one autocross event per month from March thru November, plus or minus depending on weather. There are several regions in North Carolina that run events, and you can find your region and other info at their website: www.scca.com

You can enter any event you like, don't have to compete all year. The autocross drivers are typically very friendly and helpful with novice first timers.

The SCCA has the FIAT Abarth in G Street class for starters, which limits how much you can mod the car. Once you start modding the car (or any car) it will eventually bump the car into a different class like STX (Street Touring X for the Abarth) more mods after that go to DSP (D Street Prepared)

All the rules for classing by SCCA rules are in their rulebook, with the list of cars/classes in one of the Appendices. I'll get the link.http://cdn.growassets.net/user_files/scca/downloads/000/017/206/2016-8-23_Appendix_A.pdf?1471970139

Not that I'm the poster boy for Abarth in AX, but if you look at the GS group on this SCCA ProSolo PDF, you'll see mine buried about halfway down...amidst all of the Foci, and GTIs. and a couple of other miscreant brands. There was a heavily modified Abarth at Crows Landing running SMF, and I think that's the only other Abarth in the standings. I had a lot of fun, but it was clearly a mismatch to the Foci and GTI guys. I don't know why anyone would run GS in an Abarth at the Nationals unless they just happened to live nearby. The experience would be cool.

I was thinking it would be cool to hit a bunch of the Pro Solo events this year, but having a job kind of made it not realistic! From here in VA I was thinking I could get to the Ohio and DC events easy. Maybe next year.

I agree 100% with that and I actually traded in the Abarth for a GTI.
I had to order the GTI to get it how I wanted, I got it last month.
I did 1 AX with it in GS with only a set of wheel and RE71R and it is in a different league.
With the Abarth in HS next year it might have a better chance.

I got the Nationals email notice this morning and checked the entries. Yep, still shows 24.

13 Foci
5 GTI
3 Mazda3
1 Acura
1 Neon
1 Hyundai

Most of HS is FiST, so not much to look forward to next year (for the Abarth).

My son and his buddy are at Nationals right now, and they are co-driving a Miata in ES. Total of 55 drivers, with 37 in Miatas, 17 Toyota MR2s, and 1 Porsche 944. We've been blogging about his Miata build for a while, and he'll be posting more from Nebraska later in the week. www.nms-racing.net
