Not sure if anyone has tried building a 124 Abarth lately, but the pricing for the stripe is available... better start saving.

Custom hand painted.. They advertise this as a plus but I think that a painting robot can do a perfect application of paint. I used to paint cars in my younger years and it isn't that easy. I suppose with black it isn't too, too hard, nothing like laying down some metallic and making it dance or trying to match the float of metallic in a repair paint job..

It might be cool, but not quite $1995 cool to me!

Still thinking of getting an Abarth Spider, just without the paint. Maybe add the Recaro seats and Brembo brakes.

If I go the Abarth 124 route, I think I'll investigate vinyl wrap for the stripe. I love the way it looks, but $2k is a lot to drop on appearance alone.

I think you could get it painted at a local shop in the $700 to $1000 range but I also believe it is flat or matte black which is probably harder to do than gloss black actually.

To this thread I say HAHAHA!
Plasti-Dip. 28 dollars for 4 rattle cans. If I mess up I peel it off and start again!

What is this stripe called? Is it Mopar? I was thinking the only-red or black-red (not the grey-red) would look good on my white Classica.

Its worth $2K if its painted but for a decal, no way! Find your local, quality vinyl shop and have them do it, you can even personalize it to your tastes even further!!

It is my understanding that it is matte black paint.

Auto Ricambi wanted the satin black look on the Spider they are using as a test bed for parts. The result was very nice and cost much less than $2k.

Trunkout, I was thinking the same thing, a couple cans of Plasti-Dip or other brand stuff and call it good!

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the cost and expense of a good paint job, and same for good vinyl. I know appearance is way more important to a lot of drivers than it is to me. If the black hood on a car is worth that much to someone else, then more power to them.

I'm still a big fan of FIAT, we all just have different budgets and interests.

There's no way I'd ever put anything out of a rattle can on the hood of my brand new car, even if it only cost me $10,000 to begin with.

You do realize what Plasti-Dip is, right?
Like I said... If I mess up I peel it off and start again.
And you can get a "kit" with a sprayer for 400 dollars if ya wanna get all professional with it...

Here is what you have to keep in mind with the 124 Abarth. This is an expensive, limited production car in Europe. We're just getting it at a bargain price, however the Heritage-Kit is extremely labor intensive. The cars are shipped from the ports to a central Custom Shop facility where it is dissembled and then a master painter paints the panels matte black with the hide the line paint technique that is typically employed on $100,000 cars. In Europe this is done at Officine Abarth.

Getting the factory painted hood will probably appeal more to the hard-core enthusiasts that are really into the Abarth heritage and know the history as it makes the car more exclusive. If that's not that important, I'm sure it can be replicated in the various manners posted above and still look great.

Is it my imagination or did the option just get dropped from the Fiat USA build site either today or yesterday.....Not that I'm on the build site everyday or anything.... ;-)
