View Full Version : Keeping Cool

Here are a few things I did to help keep things as cool possible during these hot days.

First was to tint the front windows. There's a nearby shop that had a medium tint that matched the factory stuff pretty good. $80.00

Then added a wide strip to the windshield. Got the darkest i could find at Autozone. Since the rearview mounting area takes up so much space, I had to do 2 separate sections. Ended up looking like eyebrows. $15.00

From the inside. I think it makes a difference. The tint provides shade now over the steering wheel at all times during the day. There's about a 8" strip of shade before the direct sunlight, which mostly only shines on the dash now. Most noticeable in the picture on the drivers side

While I was at, thought I'd add a shroud to the display as it can be a little hard to see during the day. Bought it for $3.00 off of Ebay and fits really well. It's supposed to be for a 7" tablet. It's stuck on with double sided construction adhesive tape which comes off easily if pulled in the right direction. Leaves no residue either. Probably could have done a little better job sticking it on, but it looks pretty good as is. Had to modify the bottom of the shroud with a Dremel as the ends ran the length of display and partially covered the right and left buttons

And finally. Made a custom cell phone holder since the claw style holders were such a pain in the ass to deal with. I have a giant extended battery on my Note 4 so I needed something that would be secure and would not cover any of the vents. The bracket slides tightly between the A/C vent and the dash and it has 3 rare earth magnets attached to it. You can still access the emergency flasher too since it sticks out about an inch or so. I hammered flat a tin can top and attached it to the inside of the phone case with double sided tape. Surprised how powerful the magnets are. It sticks to the bracket securely and hasn't come off yet. $15.00

Just some minor tweaks that make the cab a little more user-friendly. Best of all, everything is easily reversible
