I've had my 2014 500L in to the dealer multiple times because it would not shift into gear after startup. Of course they never duplicate the problem when they have it. Today while driving I stopped at a red light and put the car in neutral. When the light turned green I put it in drive and it wouldn't go into gear. Dash lit up with transmission and check engine lights. After alternating between park and drive a few times I finally got it to go but only had gears 2,4,6. After getting to a safe place I turned it off and waited a few minutes. Upon restart all was back to normal and transmission worked smoothly. I pulled a code (P1CB1) when I got home but can't find any info on what it relates to. Any one ever see this code or have any advice on what to tell the dealer to check? The car is less then 2 yrs old with 22k miles on it and my wife is scared to drive it unless they find something wrong with it and correct.

Hi tcnole,

The code you pulled, P1CB1 is for Gear Shift Actuator 1 Engage Failure. If I can help you get back in to your Studio for an appointment, let me know.

Picked up car yesterday from dealer. Transmission was replaced. So far so good. Hopefully it lasts.

I have been having these same issues. It started with the 1st update.
Have you had any luck getting it fixed? I think that it is because mine was made in Serbia.
Is your from there as well?
You can look in the front door panel and it will tell you.

New transmission only lasted 7 months before I started having issues again. Going back to dealership. Not sure what they can do at this point if 2 transmissions only made it to a total of 31k miles. Mostly do highway driving, not in traffic often. It has never had the burning clutch issues, just refusing to go into gear or not shifting into correct gear. Very frustrating. I hope Fiat steps up and buys it back or swaps if for a new one. There is clearly a safety issue with this DDCT. I'm surprised the NHTSA hasn't stepped in yet. Probably too low volume actually on the road. It's a shame, my wife really likes the car.

After almost 4,5 years and only 22,801 miles, my Fiat 500L started with the same problem. Gear failed to shift, three times while driving in the middle of traffic, in less than a month (May). Just came back from the Renton dealership and they said the cost to change the transmission is USD 6K. This is outrageous giving the car's mileage, Fiat had a recall in 2014 about the transmission issue and, by doing some research, the problem did not cease to exist.
This is a safety issue and Fiat should step up and have people with this problem having it fixed, if not for free, for a symbolic price. I am very disappointed with Fiat in the USA.

I agree fiat should do something about this issue. It seems to be very common issue with this model.
