I think its time to start thinking about and discussing the 500X Abarth!

I was just given conformation that it is already completed and prototyped (was at vegas). From what was described, this picture best captures the what it will look like.

The Abarth 500X
May feature a lowered, upgraded suspension, and dual exhaust. Ive been told the handling is very abarth, its lowered, wider, black wheels, matte white.

I wasn't given any hints as to what the power plant is.

Now my theory is the 1.75 Turbo from the 4C, or this new 2.0 Hurricane plant putting almost 300hp out.

What I can say its that it starts at 40,000.

I am wondering if they will feature a manual transmission, AWD combination, since the 500x shares blood from the renegade, the limited trim of the renegade has awd and manual. So we could see this combination here. Auto may be paired here as well.

But it is very possible to have manual, auto to front only.

I got my X for 31,000 id only have to pay ~9, since it is very new.

If all doest work out, I just be sticking to turboing my X.

What are y'alls expectations and theorems.

Is the Vegas one the one that was seen but not allowed to be photographed? I held of buying an X waiting for this one so hope it does come. Hope it looks better than the one in the photograph.

Yes I do believe so, don't worry, it will look a lot better than this rendering, abarth knows how to make a sexy fiat

Considering how much I enjoyed a recent standard 500X rental, I know I'd flip over an ABARTH version. As stated by Roberto Giolito, it truly is a perfect platform for some scorpion love.

Definitely, in a heart beat I would switch over to the abarth. I will keep in contact with my salesman if anything comes up, we are getting the 124 really early too, along with the guilia q4

There was a 300+ HP AWD car that couldn't pass program requirements, what makes you believe it will pass now?

$40k seems like a pretty hefty markup from standard 500x. That's close to Range Rover Discovery pricing. I don't see it. Don't get me wrong my wife and I love our 500x but not $40K or more like.

I've read that the hurricane engine will replace the V6 in the Jeep Wrangler. The Alfa 4C engine is likely to end up in the Abarth-X. I much prefer this look with the Alfa 4C wheels: http://www.autoevolution.com/news/fiat-500x-abarth-spied-with-no-disguise-104322.html#agal_3

We just got a 500x as a rental, and if it came in an Abarth version with AWD we would almost certainly get one.

I love the idea of an Abarth X but not at 40K. Quite honestly my easy X would be perfect if it had a manual transmission and about 40 more horsepower. The ride and handling are great and I paid just under 24K. I just can't see the Abarth justifying 16K more.

The Abarth brand at premium prices work in Europe, since the brand is separate from Fiat. But here in the US, unlikely.

Looking at how quickly they announced a 124 Abarth, I wouldn't get my hopes up for a 500x Abarth.

Anxiously awaiting for this car to be revealed! I don't mind the $40K price tag as long as it has all the features that I love about my current 500 Abarth. Plus I'm sure dealers will be discounting it pretty well 1-2 years after it's released.

but the 124 abarth the US is getting is essentially just badging and paint, and it's called the "elaborazione abarth" not a pure abarth like the 500.

If I had to guess, I would say the 500X would get something similar to the 124's Abarth "package" where it would get a small hp bump, mostly from the Abarth free-flowing exhaust, but stay with the 2.4 Tigershark. Throw the badges on it and drop it very slightly with firmer steering. I would imagine a manual won't be available if this was the setup. Selling price much closer to $35k.

No longer true. FIAT USA switched gears when the aficionados made their collective voice heard.

I am hearing that it will have the 1.75 but reduced numbers. 210Hp at the most and added TQ, but that will still be a nice up-grade. Looking forward to it. If it had 300HP + 300Tq, that would put the WT/HP ratio over the 4C, Mustang 2.3, nice to think about but unlikely.

im not gonna be greedy and hope for 300HP, but i am extremely optimistic that my X in the near future will be at 220-240HP with CAI, exhaust upgrades, intercooler upgrades, and handheld tuner to tie it all together. Those numbers would be pretty darn fun to have with the 1.4T manual trans.

i was at the woodward dream cruise in detroit last week. i was lucky enough to rub elbows with some big wigs who work in auburn hills. i was basically told the same thing about 500X Abarth - no immediate plans for any new trims - and word on the street is that the dodge brand is about to be wiped out and rebranded.

There are rumors that for 2017 you'll be able to get a sunroof on a turbo model. That's what I'm tempted to get. Same color as my Abarth and same engine...that'd be a nice combo. Wonder if 500 Abarth seats could be made to fit in the X.

Good, all is not lost. I'm not greedy, I just want around 225 HP/TQ, but I'll take more. :D Flat torque curve would be nice too.

The way some people have been talking in here, that might even be cheaper than spending $40k on an Abarth (and wasn't the Giulia going to start at $40k?)

EDIT: sucks that they're in California and I'm in NY. That's a bit far to drive. :)

I hope I can get fake Abarth badges with it, bwa ha ha.

It might have to wait for my powertrain warranty to expire...but given that I commute 100 miles a day, that won't take long. I was thinking of buying in April, by which time my Mazda3 should be all paid off. Of course, it might pay to grab a 2016 Trekking Plus before they disappear, should be able to get a leftover real cheap.

I am not trying to burst you bubble the cheapest Focus RS I could find in my area was $61,000 thanks to the mark up. most around the san diego area was $75-82k. they are charging from 25-40k markup.

I have asked upper management about this over the past couple of years and they have always dismissed there was an Abarth 500X coming. However, the market has changed drastically and anything is possible. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a higher performance car, though it may not have an Abarth label.

Maybe they'll throw the Hurricaine in there. Too bad it probably still won't get AndroidAuto.

With the new Compass being announced this week I might be a little torn. The Jeep dealers are much closer but I'm really not a Jeep guy.

Like I said before, I would like to see 500x abarth. I see more and more proformance SUVs. Also it would bring a different products to the fca product line. Also I think fca could bring a bigger 500x to the USA market.

It is very very possible that FCA will introduce a C segment, Fiat 500XL, in south America, they finally released the completely redesigned C-segment SUV to replace the compass and patriot, they might use this chassis as a base for the 500XL, or A platform derived from the Fiat TORO.

Or it could be based on the alfa Romeo stelvio

As the Stelvio will probably already be federalized both in itself and as the Dodge WhateverItIs, it'd probably be easier to make a FIAT version of that. Just please DON'T call it another 500!!!

Or what Fiat could do is what other companies do is sell the parts though the aftermarket. say turbo kit, brakes wheels tires. I think that would be a good Sales test and if people have enough take I know for sure that Fiat will build it. But I think that Fiat should build the 500x abarth because they need and the market is shifting towards SUV and crossovers. one thing I know from history is that people no matter what car they drive they will want a performance car/SUV/Truck. So I think if they make less cars/ Sport cars people are going to want performance in another way in their SUVs.

perhaps the biggest problem was the engine. I think they should add the 2.0T from the gullia or maybe the 2019 jeep cherokee. come on fiat make it happen. What do you guys think? I think Fiat should sell a 500X abarth I might buy one if they made it. Just add better brakes, paddle shifter, beter suspension to reduce body roll, and exhaust, tires, and the 2.0t it should be good.

Sounds great but as a realist, I think they need to sell 500X’s first. I love mine but the general market hasn’t materialized yet. I was just at my dealership a couple of weeks ago. They have some 2017s and no word on the 2018s. I also noticed there weren’t many Fiats at all. The focus looks like it’s more on Alfa in general. I think they are looking at giving up on the US market again. Hard to blame them, most people I talk to just don’t get it. They’d love the mileage but insist they need bigger not smaller.

PLP

I know, that would be awesome. 2.0T would be easily putting 250 lb*ft and 250 HP. The car would be flying.
But then, 2016 Trekking Plus, MSRP was about 30k, would arrive at 38k or so... making it pointless to buy.

I was debating between KIA Sportage 2.0T, but they did not have any to testdrive and my wife liked 500X. Now she kind of regrets it...

I was just at the Philadelphia Auto Show yesterday and it certainly looked like Fiats are being sidelined if not phased out by FCA. They only had one of each model on display, with no salespeople at that end of the booth. In past years the sales staff from the local Fiat dealership were on hand. That being said, the 2018 Trekking that was on display looked great, particularly some of the detail changes to the dash.
