View Full Version : Why I'll choose Abarth 124 over Miata club/brembo pack

did a video explaining why I've changed my mind about getting Miata and will wait for the abarth 124 spider. love Miata but abarth combines it with character of my previous 500 abarth. ultimate win-win.
video has some decent photos if interested in my opinion on the two cars:

I agree! I'd take the Abarth over the Mazda, too.gr_grin The Abarth injects a European look and feel that I prefer in my cars. I'd also do a 124 Spider over the Mazda. I'd even do a classic Spider.

Just thinking outloud here but why does the Miata, with less torque get to 60 mph faster than the 124 and 124 Abarth? I know people will mod these cars all day long and its not going to be an issue but IMO 170 hp out of the box, with the same torque number is pretty weak. The only thing my buddies came up with is that Fiat made an agreement with Mazda not to make the 124 and 124 Abarth waaaay too powerful, thoughts?

Thatd be a dumb agreement and probably one that didnt happen. Hey, heres our abarth version, its not faster than a basic miata, but its got scorpion badges all over it. Europeans usually post slower times than the american way of doing things due do testing differences. Standing start vs rollout or 62mph vs 60 and stuff like that. Not a number that I would be worried about.

I just need a carbon fiber top instead of a convertible and I'd take one!
REALLY not a fan of a piece of cloth for protection!

Don't want to be a party pooper; but how many more dealers will drop out before the roadster hits the showrooms?

Answer: Far fewer than would have had FIAT USA not decided to loosen up (and subsidize stand alones).

There is a myriad of reasons I'd choose the 124 over the Miata.

As for 0-60 mph or 0-100 kph times, these are all over the map depending on who published what number. I looked at the torque delivery on the dyno charts and it appears that the base Fiat 124 spider will be equal to or slightly quicker than an open diff ND. However, the MX-5 Club model comes with an LSD and this will allow it to out accelerate the Fiat 124 spider by a few tenths. Then the Abarth 124 also has an LSD plus more power than the base Fiat 124 spider, so it will go faster than the Club. Pricing hasn't been announced but you should have lots of choices for your money, both Mazda MX-5 and Fiat 124 / Abarth 124.
