The Abarth 124 Rallye was displayed at this years Geneva Motor show. I found a couple of photos that I thought many of you would enjoy seeing. Note the hardtop with the roof vent and the additional front rally lights--- pretty neat!

Sports Car Digest has some excellent pix of the Geneva event. Here's a link to the photo site:

Mods-- if this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it.

I wonder if the top makes it into some catalog for the car, along with the go fast bits because I can't see people being happy with the 10 hp bump when opting for the Abarth, especially with the Miata is faster 0-60 in NA form!

I would tend to agree with that in the case of the stock 124 Abarth. However ---

I could be mistaken, but I suspect this is not your off the shelf version of the 124 Abarth. This appears to be set up specifically for international road rally events. With the full roll cage, vented cabin, and extra front lighting it certainly looks the part. Historically, when the Abarth of old set out to win a race, they pulled out ALL the stops and left little to chance. I think that's the case here. Judging from recent rally performances, the Abarth folks of "here and now" are following closely in Karlo's footsteps.

If all (or any) of the above is true, the engine that will power this vehicle will be far more powerful than the 124 Abarth available at your local dealer showroom. I'll be looking for the actual specs but I'm expecting something in the order of 300 hp (more or less), a bunch more torque, and all this coupled to a heavy duty sequential gearbox. Of course, this is mostly speculation, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts that Abarth history is about to repeat itself with this automobile.

In reading your post more carefully, I probably didn't address your question as well as I might have. Yes, I think a lot of after market stuff will become avaliable for the 124 and the Abarth variant. You're right --- folks will want them exactly for the reasons you mention. Someone will surely offer a hardtop, and "go fast" stuff will almost certainly become easily available. It's a Fiat. Modding is in its DNA. But again, not parts from the car like in the photos. If I'm right, that's a purpose built race machine and will have little in common with the showroom 124. I'm sure of it ! Probably --- Maybe --- :cower:

The Rally version has a twin cam, turbocharged 1.8 with 300 hp. The engine sits quite a bit further back than in the standard Spider. It's well over $100,000 (I feel like something said it was closer to $200,000), and not street legal.

Also, the "10 hp bump" is for the Euro-spec Abarth, and being that the standard 124s have about 135 hp there, it is actually a 35 hp bump. We will surely see a similar bump in power, just as we did with the 500 Abarth (our Abarth is equal to or greater than their Abarth essesse). Something fairly close to 200 hp certainly isn't an unreasonable prediction, and there would presumably be a Euro-spec 124 Abarth essesse with similar specs to our standard 124 Abarth.

Thanks for the confirmation. Another racer for the Abarth history books. A bit of further digging brought up this:

The Abarth Racing Team has equipped the Abarth 124 Rally with a 1.8-liter turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder twin cam, which cranks out a punishing 300 horsepower
Power flows solely to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox, commanded via shift paddles, and it fights with terra firma using a limited-slip rear differential. Find yourself behind the wheel of one of these beauties and you should have no problem staying sideways for days.

The rally-spec recipe continues with a fixed coupe (no more “Spider”), installed roll cage, four-way adjustable dampers, a pair of Sabelt racing seats, gorgeous OZ racing wheels, and a claimed thorough weight loss regimen, which has given the Abarth 124 Rally a slightly rearward weight bias. Remember, sideways for days.

If you need one in your life more than anything else, you’re in luck. The Abarth 124 Rally has been homologated for the FIA’s R-GT rally class, and Abarth will open its order books at the close of the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The price is a big one however, a reported €150,000. But just wait and see -- this car will eventually stand side by side in the history books with the Abarth 131 Mirafiori, the Abarth Stilo, and the host of other Abarth Corse machines.
