Better make that gone. I just tried to make a reservation and the website advised me there were no rooms left in the block. No FreakOut for me this year. Which sucks, I was born and raised in Ypsilanti, MI and I haven't been back in years.

True, however, the deal on the room was quite a good one and I'm on a limited budget. Paying closer to full price for a room at a hotel where I would feel that both myself and my car would be reasonably safe is just not in that budget now.

Wait, your going to Auburn Hills with Woodward Avenue right nearby and no cruize planned but autoX and road racing back to back, LOL! For those people who don't know, cruizing was invented in the D and Woodward Avenue is world famous. There's a thing called the Woodward Dream Cruize where 1.5 million people show up and about 50,000 cars, give or take a couple thousand. It goes from downtown Pontiac down to Ferndale. IMO you guys should maybe think about breaking away from the group and doing this, especially if your coming from out of town.

BTW, there's cruizing every Friday and Saturday nights from spring right up to the weekend before, so if you wanna have a good time and experience what the Motor City is all about, hit Woodward on Friday or Saturday night for sure, plenty to eat up and down the avenue, check out downtown Royal Oak, happening downtown scene just off of Woodward.

Yeah no problem, just trying to maximize the out of towners experience in my hometown, that's all. Woodward and dinner would go hand in hand, may I also suggest Athen's Coney Island, an old dinner style place where you can get a Detroit original, the coney dog!

Hotel rooms ARE available at the Centerpoint Marriott. All the club activities are based from this location and this is why everyone will stay at this location. The club has contracted with this hotel for use of their facilities and a discounted rate for members.

Have fun in the D, here's a couple places to hit for sure if any of you guys hit Woodward Avenue for some cruising:

-Vinsetta Garage, yeah THAT Vinsetta Garage, converted to a bar/restarant

-Chicken Shack, small place with great broasted chicken and KILLER RIBS!!

-Bangkok Cafe', great Thai!!!

-Toast (breakfast place), seriously, the best place for breakfast in the metro Detroit area, you'll thank me later.

-Red Coat Tavern, special burgers

Downtown Birmingham has some high end places to go for those of you with a little bit more money, old, classic downtown setting.

One thing about that place though, be prepared to wait quite a while though. They have great burgers and some mac and cheese dish that's supposed to be awesome. I should also mention there's a Billy Sims BBQ just south of 14 mile and Woodward on the east side of the street.

Now just north of 14 mile and Woodward on the east side of the street is a long running cars and coffee, starts around 8 a.m. Its hosted by a collectables store called Pasteniers, pardon the spelling it used to be called The Auto Zone (not THAT autozone either, LOL) I started going to that show back in 2007 and all cars are welcomed, a huge Fiat turnout would make for a great photoshoot. I've seen Frank Markus from Motor Trend there a couple times in his Maserati Ghilbi, so you never know who or what will show up there, it is the Motor City afterall!

I can't make it, my vacation time is all booked up as I go to the Tail of the Dragon in the fall. I should get out to one of these sometime soon, missed the one here in Chicago and it was right after I got my car too. I'm not interested in FaceSpace so I had no way of knowing about it in time. I wish all these Fiat people in Chicagoland would come out to our local Cars and Coffee sometime.

Just tried to book my room and the marriott site is "down" when I click on the link. I called the property and the front desk said I would need to call the reservation line or call back tomorrow and speak to the sales dept. I didn't call the reservation line because I don't know the discount code. the FFO2016 page just says click the link, doesn't say what the discount group code is.

Will a helmet be required for the auto cross event? If so, are there any specific safety requirements or will my regular motorcycle helmet be ok?

A helmet will be required and there will be just a few loaners to pass around.

The Autocross is being co-managed by the Alfa Romeo club and their events require a Snell certified helmet, as does SCCA. Since this is a somewhat less "formal" event they may allow a motorcycle helmet, but I can't guarantee it.

What a week!

I hope all who ventured to Detroit for this year's FreakOut had as much fun as I did!

These are my highlights from the events, so I hope others can share their experiences as well.

Thursday's Poker Run, coincidentally the event I organized, was a true highlight. As far as I know, nobody got *too* lost and only one car broke down. Not bad, eh! The tour around Orchard Lake is summer heaven, which was immediately followed by lunch at Golling FIAT dealership. We were able to get some first impressions of the new 124 over lunch. The second stop at M1 concourse was very informative and they even let us take a parade lap around the private track. Who was the pace car? An M1 Concourse Viper ACR, of course. The final stop was at a Dodge fortune mansion, Meadowbrook Hall. Overall it was a great trip!
22834

The museum party was also excellent and had a few surprises, like an appearance from Bob Broderdorf, Director of FIAT Brand's North American operations.
22835
22836

Friday night was spent on Woodward Ave and there's hardly enough we can say about that. We had perfect weather and it was a summer Friday night. That means Woodward was PACKED with cars from every era, every make, and to fit anybody's individual style. Seeing a huge pack of FIATs pass by led by the 500 Jolly was truly priceless. Needless to say, our cars got lots of attention.
22837

The Concorso got off to a very wet start, but once the rain let off and the sun came out, the tops started to drop! It was also a pleasure to see so many Lancias join us as well as having not one but TWO ultrarare Ghia 1500GTs in our show!
22838

I'm already looking forward to Milwaukee 2017. And I'll repeat what was mentioned again at the awards dinner: The Freakout can be held anywhere! If you have the drive to organize it, get a group together and make a bid to host one!

Ciao,
Andrew
