Hi. I need advice on my current tires. Pirellis are already noisy but still has good tread left on it. Please see picture.
I'm planning of attending the fiat on the dragon event this April and driving from Florida.
Are my tires sufficient for the event?
I'm going to replace it with Michellin Pilot Sport eventually, I just want to maximize the current one without sacrificing grip on the road (safety).
Thanks!

Looks like plenty of tread to me.

Do you have a tread depth gauge to measure? It's one good way to know if you're ready to replace tires without waiting for bare tires or looking for wear bars.

I will measure it. Tires are not on the wear bars yet. Thanks!

My stock tires were cupping at 5500 miles and by the time I went down to the Dragon they were at around 7-6/32nds and after a 1500 mile round trip and some "fun" driving down on the Dragon my tires were at 3/32nds on the front and 5/32nds on the rear, so when they go, they GO!

I currently have a set of Yoke S-drives on the car and I'm very happy with them, they are my 3 season set up and I can't say enough good things about them. They handled the Dragon well last fall and are already light years ahead of the stock tires. I also have a 215-40 on 7.5" wheels but I'd say you could run them on the stock rims honest, surely others have done this.

It happened to me, too. You can count on two days of spirited driving on the Dragon / Devil's Triangle to take 3/32's off the stock Pirelli's.

I measured the tread using the penny and quarter method and it has approximately 4-5/32nds depth left. http://www.tirerack.com/winter/tech/techpage.jsp?techid=51

Based on your experience, I'll have around 2-3/32nds left by the time I get back to Orlando.

Should I replace it before or after the trip?

If that's the true measurement, I'd replace them before. You might want to have them measured with an actual gauge though.

You're going to be driving during the 2 months between now and the dragon, wearing them a little more, so take that into account. Also, it frequently rains at least 1 day during the event and you don't want marginal tires in the rain on those roads.

They look like plenty of tread. Silly to replace them right now. If anything, maybe right before the trip.

As long as it is BEFORE it's a good idea.

I've been to every FOTD since it began and I always leave with a lot less tire.

This is a 1 minute and 5 second example...hehe

Thanks guys. I will use it for now and replace before the event.
