Nice color of blue and pretty funny to see how long that sticks out there! :D I bet you get a LOT of odd looks when driving.

Yes, I get a lot of looks. I even get pulled over by cops once in a while because they don't like the look of it. I have a stand that I built for the hitch, the boat is solidly mounted, and I have a flag on it so it is perfectly legal.

Why not center the boat over the car?

Great post steve6225. Who says you can't take anything with you if you own a Fiat now?

It's all about the boat... The boat is pretty well centered between the saddle on the rack and the saddle on the hitch stand. The saddles also line up with the bulkheads, which is the strongest part of the hull.

I had this all figured out before I bought the car. A lot of my paddling friends laughed at me when I told them I was going to buy a Fiat and put my boat on top of it... Then I did it!

HOLY CRAP! How long is that Kayak??? I've been for the LONGEST time wanting to build a Pygmy wooden Kayak for a friend in Michigan but I'm in Phoenix and could never figure out how to get it there.

Nice job, Steve! Looks good- well thought out. Curious if you experience any aerodynamic effects, positive or negative, with the kayak on top. Some years ago a friend had a VW 411- said he got considerably better mpg's with his Old Town canoe strapped to the top, especially at interstate speeds. He figured that somehow that canoe improved the aerodynamics.
