Pulled over today after hearing a loud 'whack whack whack' coming from rear passenger tire, thought I had a flat.

See pictures, this thing was laced in the inner wheel and the end was stuck directly into the tread. A passerby used wire cutters but it was too thick and strong. Finally got it out by rolling the tire slowly and the piece came away.

My question, is this something that came off my FIAT? I ask because the road was clear and I don't think I hit this and that it was already under my car. Does anyone recognize what it is? In the center you see the piece is shaped into a spring and the long ends extend about 8 inches either side, roughly 16 inches long. And one end is bent from the tire while the other end is shaped hairpin.

Could be part of the emergency brake cable but it looks too thick. Hopefully you are ok!

What does your cat think it is? Possibly trash from the road?

Yes thank you I'm fine. FIAT has a few scrapes inside the wheel well and on the outer wheel trim. The tire was punctured but the passerby plugged it with a nail and the Mazda dealership nearby was able to plug it.

As long as the metal didn't come from my FIAT I'm not going to worry too much :) It's a tough little car!

Yes that's what she said and she was disgusted I brought it home.

The way its coiled up makes me think its a brake line.

Our brakes don't have any coils like that.

I don't think that's from your car. More likely road debris. I would get the dealership to look under the car just in case though. Better safe than sorry.

Could be a wire that someone used to fish a bolt through a frame rail hole. Does your car have a spare tire kit or rear hitch?

Guys take a look at this pic I found on the internet. I'm not able to tell you what all these parts are but look at the silver spring shaped part. Here's the link to the website too http://www.fiat500usa.com/2010/09/examining-fiat-500-suspension.html

Could you help me understand it? I need to take the car to the dealer but can't get under the car and this picture is tiny on a cell phone and my tablet. I still have the part. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a spring for the parking brake

Definitly not off our car. Our p-brake springs are much small than what was in your tire.

Hello, I have a 500 Sport with glass roof, there is no hitch, no added equipment. My tire is under my car but I don't know if it's a full size tire or not.

My guess is that you snagged it somewhere. Doesn't look like the spring in the pic and I think that bolt fishing wire would be much smaller in diameter.

This was my first thought as well...haha. Like other stated it looks like a piece of road debris.
