I swear this thing was pinging at WOT in 4th gear. I just filled it up with 93 octane. Does the 500T make the same amount of boost as the abarth? I would think I'd have less boost, less timing and less chance of detonation than an abarth.

It also seemed like it was breaking up in certain gears when in boost. Spark blowout? I searched and didn't see a lot of pinging threads.

I have a 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo and always use 93 octane gasoline. I've never heard a ping from the engine. I've got one solid car.

15 PSI stock vs the Abarth's 18 PSI. Any mods or is it stock?

15 PSI stock vs the Abarth's 18 PSI. Any mods or is it stock? It's completely stock, only has 260 miles on it. It definitely had something rattling at around 4k in 4th.

I would avoid WOTs during the recommended 500 mi. break in period.

Bring it in. If there's an audible rattle, I would bring it in right away.

Are you sure it started life with 93? Both of my cars T & Abarth started life with 86.....wtf dealers?

In this kind of heat it would ping with some 86/87 in it, it was hot enough today that 93 came close to not cutting it.

Although if its only 4th, take it in immediately.

The manual actually says. "While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the
limits of local traffic laws contributes to a good break-in." Which is what I was doing when I heard a faint BB in a tin can type noise.

300 buddy, and that was hard enough, 500 would suck even more (by 200 miles more). ;)

Gave it a little WOT in 4th today, even started lower in the rpms and didn't here anything. I had 2 other people in the car at the time I heard it though.

Hum, I thought the multi-air engine had a knock sensor which would prevent "pinging"? Anyone know for sure? (Not directed at OP, but forum in general)

EDIT: Found the answer here http://www.fiat500usa.com/2011/08/inside-2012-fiat-500-engine.html Look at the section about the cylinder block.

I've never data logged the knock sensor on the multi-air, but have on my GMC Envoy. Whenever a knock is sensed it retards timing a lot. I never hear pinging because of how sensitive the sensor is. Could be that your knock sensor is not working properly.
