View Full Version : What do you call your car?

The other day I realized that when people ask me what kind of car I have, I say I have an Abarth. I never say 'I have a Fiat' or 'I have a Fiat 500' or even 'I have a Fiat 500 Abarth'. If people ask what an Abarth is, then I'll say a Fiat and brief description. And that got me thinking-what does everyone else call theirs?

No one has asked yet but mine is brand new at this point. I'll tell them it's an Abarth, then explain further if I need to. As for what I call it... It's name is Meatball... even have a plate on the way with Meatb4l, lol.

I own an Abarth, if it requires explanation; the one is provided. It's my first track car :) just waiting for enough cash and 2015 to start so I can run with trevc next year

I call my car a FIAT Turbo. Guess what my new nickname is at work...? Should have told them it was a 500T.

When people ask "what car is that?" I say "It is a Fiat 500 Abarth. The 'go-fast' model." It's the most simple way to describe the Abarth without boring someone. When people ask if it is a Fiat (since there are no actual Fiat badges, but they can obviously tell it is a 500) I just say "Yes, it is the Abarth model."

As far as names, her name is Tess. :)

I call it a Fiat 500, and most people have no clue what car I'm talking about. If I refer to it as an Abarth, they immediately nod their head in excitement and recognize it immediately. The second question is always if it goes fast. :p

Them: what kind of car is that..?

Me: it's a Fiat.

Them: Really?

Me: Yeah, really.

Them: I had no idea.

Me: Yeah, I see.

Then they hear it... And it's a whole new conversation.

All my boys gave me a rash of **** for trading in the TT. Now I get text messages like "Hey man, you know if they have any more Abarths at the dealership..?" #rookies

No one had caught me yet to be able to ask...lol.

Okay wishful thinking I guess. Mostly I say Abarth or FIAT and then go into detail as needed.

I usually just say a FIAT... every time I have said an Abarth people just stare blankly like I just erased every cognitive thought that might be lurking in their mind or I waste time explaining that it's a model of the Fiat 500 line. So just saying I have a FIAT keeps it short and sweet.

I just call it the Abarth. A guy asked me what an Abarth is - I said "it's the performance version of the the 500." He said "no, who makes it?" Me: "Oh, it's a Fiat." He still kind of looked at me blankly. I think there are only two other 500's in my area right now, though, and neither is an Abarth - one sport and one cabrio. I love that it doesn't say Fiat on it anywhere.

I call it a Abarth. If people don't understand, I say Carlo Abarth was more or less the Italian Caroll Shelby except cooler. That usually puts the pieces in place.

My best female friend and sometimes girlfriend called the copper Pop "baby orange". She calls the Turbo, "Bean". I prefer to call it La Morte Nera but I mostly just call it my Fiat or wana be Abarth.
Elise was kinda hilarious, I got comments ranging about it being a Ferrari to a new Corvette. When asked what it was, "Its a Lotus Elise", "Who makes it?" "Lotus" "What?"

'What do you call your car?'

... snowed in. They finally got one car width open this afternoon but it was drifting over fast ..... 10' drift on the west side of road. Made it over to the station to fill the Sport and gas for the tractor/ snow blower (X320 Deere/ 44" blower) and the one lane was Fiat 500 Sport narrow coming back 15 minutes later as was the driveway. Won't be going anywhere in the a.m. Enough of this snow stuff ... I'm ready for spring.

When asked what I own, I say I have a Fiat clown car. I have plans to one day see how many people will fit inside. I'm trying to make friends with a lot of small people. I've owned her for a month now and driven her 500 miles and still haven't given her a pet name. Her personality hasn't started to show thru yet.

I have plans to one day see how many people will fit inside.
My record is six normal-ish people.

Me driving.
Passenger seat: a slim couple sharing the seat. On laps. They actually fit pretty comfortably, they said. Buckled in fine.
Back seat: Another couple with their 10y kid in the middle. We crossed the rear belts to the opposite buckles, so that all three in the back were buckled.

We went across town (Philly) that way.

Perfectly safe; surface streets, max speed was... 25 or so.

I've carried 5 people (three in the back seat) many times. I should add the the shortest people go in the back, and I'm under 6ft, so the back seat is not as bad as it would seem.

I bet if you took out the back seats, and drove with the front seats forward-ish, you could cram 9 people in. Unsafely.
At the expense of all your trim.

Mine is named Naya. Mostly because she reminds me of a friends dog that is way too energetic for her own good, and pee's everywhere when she gets excited. The Fiat also piddles when it gets excited.

People don't normally ask. I see them eyeing the Abarth logos in drive thrus trying to figure it out. I use the usual comparisons that I think will work like something similar to Shelby, AMG, etc. I call him Chase. Chase was a transformer from the 80's cartoon series. Chase was a red Ferrari Testarossa and one of the Throttlebots who were known for their speed. I figured it was fitting given the "red rocker/head cover" and being Italian and all. Its all in fun I guess so Chase it is.

I say Abarth. If I need further explanations I use the
Shelby/Ford, Abarth/Fiat, AMG/MB analogy and most seem to understand.
I call the Abarth "Mouse".
It is Grigio, of course.

My little Abarth is Carlo. GF calls him "Topolino". Here in the Florida Panhandle, where there are NO dealers, the F-150 crowd calls him Tie-ota. The nearest dealers are in Jacksonville,Pensacola, and the CHIC,booming fashion metropolis of Columbus,Georgia. Fiat completely ignores the state Capitol of Tallahassee,a college town, and Panama City,Spring Break central, and all the chi-chi well to dos in Destin that drive Smart cars. As long as that continues,I have the most exotic car in the Panhandle. A doc on St George Island has a Ferrari,I see a Tesla several times a week, and someone around here has an Aston Martin. NOBODY but me has an Abarth. Every now and then someone towing a Pop,or a Lounge is seen from out of staters pulling them behind an rv.

I had a plate frame made for my new Abarth with "Piccolo Mostro" (Little Monster) on it. Recently, after several trips with the top down and exhaust "talking", my oldest has referred to it a couple of times as Chewbacca :)
