View Full Version : Car wouldn't start - Bad Key

02-09-2014, 12:29 AM
Just wanted to share my experience in case it happens to someone else. Last week my car wouldn't start it cranked but wouldn't turn over. The service manager told me to try my spare key and I did and it started right up. They told me that I was the third person to have this problem with a key that suddenly stops working. They are ordering me a new key.

It's a little concerning that there has been such a rash of bad keys going on lately. How screwed are you if you take it on a long-range trip and your key suddenly dies?

Just wanted to add my 2 cents that back in late December I had a key go bad. Now here I am on Feb 14th and my 2nd key goes bad. This is more then just a "rash". This is something Fiat needs to get under control

just wondering... did anyone confirm that the battery in the non-functional key was still good?

I don't exactly see how to get the battery out of the fob but even if that's the case... did Fiat go and buy the worlds crappiest batteries?

Update: Figured it out, it's behind the key. Replaced the battery, car still won't recognize key or fob input.

that's certainly disconcerting that a key would render itself useless. hopefully they figure out what's the cause.
