Anyone having any issues with Uconnect freezing up? It happened to me twice so far...Thanks for any input.

there are several posts on this, not sure if anyone got the issue resolved. I only experience it when I'm in the boonies, in remote areas. Powering off/on gets it back online. Perhaps there's a conflict in the unit with the GPS and out dated or incomplete map?

I had it no respond to any touchscreen input once. The hard buttons worked and the steering wheel controls worked, but the screen didn't. The next time I started the car it was fine again.

I also notice that it blanks out randomly sometimes. I'll be listening to SXM and it'll mute for half a second and come back, just cruising down the freeway in the country, not near buildings or anything.

The other night the rear view camera wouldn't come on, I noticed it, put it in first and then back into reverse and it still didn't come on.

It seems that Harmon didn't do a lot of regression testing of the code before they released the radio.

I almost forgot, I also tuned to a FM preset (this has happened a few times) and there's no sound. Switch to another preset and back to the original one and then it decides to work.

All in all they're small issues and so far they've all gone away on a "reboot", but it makes me wonder if they're running Windows Embedded...

I have had problems with the usb and SD card not being recognized randomly. Sometimes the uConnect recognizes them and at other times it doesn't. It seems to be random and with no apparent pattern.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Welcome to the forum.

I know with the 500 line prior to the L this was something that happened for many, seems even the switch from Blue & Me to uConnect hasn't managed to avoid the same issues. That I know of there wasn't a 100% all around fix but with the L there may be some software updates the dealer can perform that help resolve this problem.

I'm going to post a long rant about my radio/uconnect but in short YES i've had those issues and they are replacing my SD/USB slot/unit. That being said....

I have had nothing BUT problems with my entire radio/unconnect unit. First issue is I wasn't told that my car didn't have a CD player (news to me they weren't putting them in all cars) even though I told my sales guy I had 3 cases of CDs in my old car. But hey my fault for not asking/checking I guess and just making the assumption.

I have a 500L Trekking that I purchased in Sept. 2013 and I do have the Beats Audio/Sirius Radio package - however, it does nothing but cut in and out as I'm driving all over town (Las Vegas) and it drives me so CRAZY that I have to turn it off. I tried using my USB port to plug in my iPhone but that was working hit or miss. I went out and bought an SD card and loaded a bunch of music to it - it worked TWICE and wouldn't work again. I have times when my radio doesn't even turn on and boot up until I'm miles down the road and then when it does it shows none of my favorites (on satellite) for anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple minutes. Not a huge deal but still. When I've use the Bluetooth or USB method to listen to music it doesn't register up on the screen sometimes, it won't switch what's playing when the song switches, OR it freezes up. Sometimes the music shows it's playing but there is no sound.

My other issue is that my Uconnent to make calls via bluetooth is TERRIBLE. It's hard to hear the other person, it cuts in and out and has horrid static/crackly noises that make it difficult to have a conversation. One of my big reasons for getting a new car was to have the hands free option for phone calls but this one just doesn't cut it for me. I've been in others cars with hands frees and it sounds a LOT better than this. I felt it had to be an issue with the unit overall b/c when i switch the phone from the car's hands free to normal and put it up to my ear i can hear just fine with no static, etc.

I immediately mentioned the cutting in and out of the sirius to the dealer right away - I hadn't had my car very long. They looked at it and basically told me that it was from power lines. Mmm kay. Why doesn't anyone with XM that i know have that problem? But what could i do? Well as it seemed to happen more and not just by power lines i complained again and brought it back and that time i took a ride with the tech. He heard the cutting in and out, we brought it back to service and they had it for a while. When i went to pick it up they said it was the telematics and that Chrystler doesn't have a fix yet but i'd be the first to know when they do.

Now it's months later and i've not been told of a fix so i bring my car in again, this time i also mentioned the bluetooth issues. I was told that unfortunately not all phones can be used on all bluetooths. That some phones work great and others don't. I don't buy this argument but take it as you will. I was also basically told the same crap about the Sirius but they would look into it, and they would also look at why my SD/USB wasn't working. They supposedly tested my bluetooth with 2 different phones - 1 android and 1 iPhone - and said it worked fine. WOW great testing that it worked fine while the car was stationary and sitting in one spot. I personally don't think that's a great indicator it's not working properly but hey i'm just the customer. They DID say however, that they needed to replace my SD/USB port b/c it was basically "dead". I was told that upon having to take the dash apart to replace that, that they will also test my satellite radio with an external antennae to determine if that's the issue or not. I really don't have high hopes for them doing ANYthing about this. So far my NAV systems has worked fine but i've only used it once so we'll see. The person that's the liason for the service dept really doesn't hold my confidence that he knows what he's doing. It took 3 weeks to get the part in and he told me they don't know how long it will take to fix b/c they've never had to fix one. Also, unfortunately, we only have 2 dealerships here. The one i currently go to is only open M-F until 6 pm. I work on the other side of town and can't get there by then so i always have to take off work or get a ride if i want to have my car serviced. They don't even do oil changes on the weekends! The other dealership has longer hours but i've heard nothing but bad reviews about them so i don't particularly want to go there.

So basically i paid more money for a sound system that doesn't work like it should. What's the point if i have to deal with it cutting in and out and if my SD/USB only works part of the time (hey at least that should be getting fixed) and my bluetooth sounds like crap. It's certainly not a great selling point for Sirius b/c i can tell you when my 1 year free is up i'm not paying to listen to music that cuts in and out where you can't even listen to an entire song without it happening!

Rally500,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're having with your Fiat. Have you been back to your Studio since the update was performed to let them know the issue is present? When the system switches sources, do you have devices plugged into the system by both USB and bluetooth? How often does it occur?

Yes, we have the exact same issue since taking in our 500L Trekking to fix an airbag issue (2nd time) and blown front passenger speaker. The dealer said there was some recall and they updated the radio/nav unit. This was well before the most recent recall notification. Since then, the rearview camera stutters 100% of the time.

Having some of those same problems - XM, bluetooth (phone only), and dealership service hours. Where I got the car the service department is only open M-F 9-5pm. Both my husband and I took off from work to get the problems fixed, but nothing came out of it. We surrendered and went to the douche dealer close to home because they were open on Saturdays. They did agree there was a problem and decided it was best to just replace the entire radio. They ordered the part and were at least semi-honest by telling me it would take a while because the parts were ordered OEM. After stalking them for almost 2 months they said the part is scheduled to come in next week. It's odd because if I use the bluetooth to listen to music it works phenomenally - no problems whatsoever. USB is fine too, but I haven't used the SD at all. I'll let you know how things turn out with the replacement.

Were you able to get the camera stutter fixed? Mine still happens and the Fiat Studio Service Manager said there is a known problem with the radio update causing it but didn't offer a solution. I'm thinking of doing the lemon law since my car was in the shop for 6 weeks last time only to have one problem fixed (transmission recall) but a new problem that never existed (jerky/stuttering backup camera). It's also been in for other issues over the past 10 months.

I experienced the Sirius shutting down for a 1/2 second every now and then, had the screen freeze three times, but outside of those it's been fine. We have three iPhone 5s paired with it, and they all work fine. I have noticed the stuttering camera since the last radio update - never occurred to me they could be related.

I'm at the dealership now and Lady's radio and microphone were replaced but only has very little improvement. I got in the car with the service guy and drove around a bit. I made sure to drive at my normal speed and faster just to test it out. I called 2 different people and they both confirmed that my voice crackles, lots of road noise, and even with the car stopped no blower and the volume all the way up no real improvement. It's interesting because sirius works better and the radio didn't cut out like it did before, but the Bluetooth still sucks.

I just had mine in on Tuesday and they still say a fix is being worked on for the radio stuttering backup camera. That's the only issue I have with the radio. I had no issues before they did the update. Sigh. Now, if they could figure out why my check engine light comes on for a few days. Said it had oxygen sensor error but their diagnostic tests came back fine. One more check engine light and I'm filing for lemon law. It's already met it's 30 day in the shop for one repair limit and this check engine light will be the 3rd or 4th time it's been in for that.

I'm sympathetic to your problems with the radio. We had a new VW a few years ago that had radio issues. Of course neither VW nor Fiat make their own radios but we all expect our new shiny vehicles to be paradigms of perfection.

The reality is that the chance of something being wrong amongst the thousands of parts and assemblies that make up our cars is higher than we like to think about. So it makes it all the more important to have a good dealer with a trained and professional service department that cares to keep customers coming back.

I credit Fiat for paying attention to forums such as this one with a care specialist. I've not seen something like that on Dodge, Ford or Jeep forums.

I had experienced the random blanking out in my 500 sport, but it would blank out for a LONNNNNG time too, at times. The service dept stated that the Blue Me software doesn't play nice with the iPhone iOS. No sound would come out of the speakers, not even for handsfree calling, but the face of the radio would illuminate and respond to input, just no sound..
In the end, there was no fix. I ended up selling the car after 9k and two years of having it because it was a small constant headache. I do miss the car, but I love the space in my new L.

I have not been able to access my usb for 3 days, except on a fluke it actually worked, but the next time it didn't again. Also, when I first bought the car I didn't like they way it shifted. They did the update and it was like a completely different car, loved it. Now it seems like it is shifting like it did when I got. Could it have lost the upgrade? Guess its time to take it in!

Yea, my car was like a totally dfiferent car after the update but now it's back to the old shifting ways. Occasionally it shifts better though. I'm thinking that maybe this car is very sensitive on what type of gas it uses? I'm thinking of getting a GO Pedal since I hear it makes the car drive dramatically better.

My GoPedal has made a huge difference in my Trekking. I would not want to go back. Fuel choice may have an impact too. I went from regular to mid-grade and did notice a difference. But the GoPedal alone has lots of settings that are effective.

Sometimes sold used for $200 or less so keep an eye out, great product! Install is SUPER easy, unplug and replug...done! Location and getting to it is the ONLY challenge and it is still VERY easy. It comes with velcro so there is no "loose hanging" issues. You could also set it and tuck it away if you have no intention of changing the available settings.

I and MANY others have no issue with it being installed and taking it in for service but luckily it is SO EASY if you were worried removing it is a piece of cake. It should not cause problems and should not affect warranty. (The dealer would have to prove it was the cause anyway). Some dealers are more relaxed about mods so again, your call on removing it since it is as easy as plugging in a lamp. Remember the only hard part is how awkward it is getting to it.

Whenever I have taken my Trekking in for service, I have told the service guys that the GoPedal is installed but I have always turned it off just so it won't have any effect on any work they might do. There have been no problems so far. As to installing it and how it looks once installed, here's my comment (http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?17030-500l-Gopedal&p=700107#post700107) in another thread.

I had an interesting glitch with BlueTooth on my uConnect. When I got in the car, after work today, I noticed that BlueTooth did not connect to my iPhone 5. When I went to the BlueTooth menu, it appeared to have forgotten my iPhone. I tried to get them to pair after I got home, but they wouldn't. I did test the iPhone when I got in the house with a BlueTooth speaker system and it paired fine.

Later I came out and tried to pair them once again. That time they worked. Odd, huh? Also... I noticed that the BlueTooth signal level shown on the uConnect screen was only 1 bar. It has been running 4 bars. Again, odd.

Anyone had something like this occur with their BlueTooth?

I was having issues with my usb not working at all. I took it in to the dealer and they claimed that it was because I had my music files in folders (by artist) and took them all out of the folders. It was working for awhile, however, then I started having a different problem. A lot of the songs on my usb drive were showing and playing double. If I put the usb stick in my computer it looked fine, no extra copies. I again took it to the dealer and they said my usb stick was malfunctioning and I should get a new one. I have bought a new usb and copied my music to it. Again, worked okay for awhile. Now not only am I getting doubles, I am also getting triple copies of some songs. Guess I need to take it back in again.

You might try re-proxying the radio. Hold the on/off and browse button in at the same time for about 10 seconds and the radio will reboot. See if that takes care of the duplicate problem.

Finally got the car back to the dealer for the USB issue. After having it for a day they finally saw what I was talking about with the multiple copies of songs on the drive. If I cleared off the drive completely, it read nothing. If I put even one song back on the drive, 1200 songs would show up in multiple copies. Well they finally decided I needed a new radio and had to order it. In a loaner for now as I wait. John

They finally determined my radio was bad and had to order a new one to replace it. After a week in a loaner they called me and told me it was done. I went and picked up the car and it was playing off the usb stick as it should. Went a couple miles down the road to a Trader Joes to get a few thing happy to have my car back. When I got back in the car and started it up it would not read the usb drive at all, showing zero songs when there is like 300. Turned it off and and several times and still not working. When this happens for some reason Bluetooth streaming does not work either. If I just turn on the radio and then go to Bluetooth it works, but if I try to access the usb, it doesn't. Back to the dealer it went and back in a loaner car. Boy the crappy stock radio sure sounds like crab compared to my Beats! Still waiting to hear from dealer. ugh!
