View Full Version : 16x8 wheel = 205/40 or 205/45 tire??

Looks like a 205/45 is maxed out at a 7.5" wide wheel where a 205/40 is just right on an 8" wide wheel. I am not lowered-well, zonker mod on rear springs.

Here are the O.D. specs for the tires. All are within the recommended 3% difference:

OEM 195/45-16=22.8

I would rather have the higher sidewall the 205/45 offers plus I'll have that kewl tire stretch slight as it may be-lol. What would you folks recommend?

What are you going for - looks or performance? The shorter sidewalls will crispen handling, lower the car slightly and slightly improve acceleration. Both are marginal for an 8" wheel but I'm not sure why one would be spec'd for a 7.5 and the other for an 8 inch wheel. That said, stretching the tire to the widest wheel also gives you the biggest tread footprint.

Me, myself, I'd go with the shorter sidewall but it's pretty much a toss-up...

I'd like the wheel protection of the slightly taller sidewall for out lovely roads 'round these parts. Not sure what Road Race is running on their 16x8's but the tire looks meaty!

The 205/45-16 is still a smaller OD than the optional 205/40-17 tire.

They have Toyo R1R's mounted on their Stance Encore wheels. They are 205/45 R16

Well, that pretty much settles it then. Unless I find that there is a distinct reason to get 205/40's then 205/45's it is!

To me, the benefit of the 16" wheel vs the 17" one is the added side wall. It provides a little more comfort on the road and as an added bonus.... they are cheaper ;) Going with a 40 series 16" tire just doesn't seem like the best option in my opinion. I love my tires and I am really happy with the 16's. I too want to get the matte black Stance Mindset wheels down the road.

Like minded my friend.
