With approximately 2000 trouble free miles on the clock of mostly city commuting miles, it was time to take her out to stretch her legs on a 300 mile roundtrip excursion with 43 miles of it on an unpaved, unmaintained back road known as Soda Lake Road. The Trekking performed well, other than the stiff suspension while on this road I have no complaints. The car is pretty solid and I was surprised there were no unexpected rattles that appeared.

Heading into the valley.

Rather than start a new thread I'm just going to add to this one.

Here are some photos from a trip to Joshua Tree National Park. I was too busy enjoying the trip, so there are not many pictures of the Trekking.

Highlight of the day was helping this desert turtle cross the highway before he was surely to get run over at the pace he was crossing. Fortunately no one was immediately driving behind me, so I was able to back up and pull over to the side. There was no doubt that he would most likely get run over or seriously injured by a vehicle, so I picked him up and carried him over in the direction he was going.

He wasn't too happy about being picked up but he was a friendly guy and let me pet his head without snapping.

These things are sharp. I accidentally touched one and it feels like sharp needles. It easy stuck to my shoe without even trying.

looks like a good trip. I am glad to hear that you weren't let down. What camera were you shooting for these pictures?

Nice photos! What a wonderful way to spend the day, going on adventures. The first set were like "the 500L on Mars". Curiousity dawdles too much, NASA should've sent a 500L on up.

In the photo before the spiky Tribble that attacked your shoe, what are they? Are they little cacti too? They look kind of fluffy. Like a bouquet of caterpillars.

Was it hot in those places? Were there any smells? Sometimes trees, shrubs have distinct scents, you know, like eucalyptus. Just wondering if there were any kinds of scents. Which reminds me to go take some allergy/decongestant, so I too can smell something...anything.

I like those Joshua trees. With their Bactrian camel neck branches and cheerleader pompon tufts of green.

the Trekking has been fun and solid thus far. More adventures are in the works. The camera I used is an old 8.1 mega pixel Kodak point and shoot.

I haven no idea what they are, but don't let their fluffy look fool you because they're dangerously spiky and sharp.

The weather wasn't hot, it was just right and comfortable when I visited that I was able to climb up on a few boulders without worrying about the heat. There were no scents that I can recall getting my attention.

You're my top pick on "person I'd most like to go on a day trip with". These are great pictures. An impossibly clear sky that goes on forever. I just love nature, all kinds of nature. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Made a trek to Death Valley and the 500L performed like a champ. I was concerned about fuel and having enough to go into the valley, wander around and make it back out. This is one time where I was happy the Trekking came equipped with a spare tire. The 500L averaged 35.x MPG during that time and I had more than enough fuel to make it out of the valley of sand dunes LOL.

A capture from Dante's View at 5,475ft above sea level of the enormous valley. The lighter terrain are sand dunes. The lowest point on the valley floor is 250ft below sea level.

Next stop, San Diego. The oil change light came on during the trip with 5100 miles on the clock.

Mission Bay - these pictures don't capture the awesomeness of this place, but it's all I have. It's not a place with much scenery, but it's the activities one can do while there. It's the active life-styler's playground for fun ranging from running, biking, rowing, boating, jet ski, canoeing, hiking, bon fires and the list goes on...

Cabrillo National Monument - The drive up is pretty scenic, with the bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. The views are amazing.

Just rolled past 7,000 trouble free miles. The car has been solid.
