Under the hood of the FIAT 500L you’ll find the award-winning, technologically advanced 1.4 L MultiAir Turbo engine with 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque - the same engine that powers the FIAT 500 Abarth. This engine features twin intercoolers and an electronically-controlled hydraulic system to deliver outstanding performance and fuel economy. Quoted from Fiat Canada website.

Where is our extra 14 tq.

its probably in the exhaust system and possibly tuning?

They de-tuned the Abarth because they could only fit the 5 speed gearbox in which isn't rated for the higher torque.
the 500l uses different gearboxes.

The twin intercoolers is what caught my eye. I could swear that my L only has one. I need to look again

It's probably due to a better cooling system since the 500L has more room to work with

It runs more boost and has a slightly better intake system. The intake is similar to what they use with this engine in the Alfa Romeo MiTo which also has a little more power.

This. The 5-speed is over its maximum rated torque already in the Abarth.

Doesn't sound like a great strategy for long term reliability

If thats the case then just how long till all those with piggyback ecu mods hear their transmissions fall out the bottom of the housing? I was under the impression the 5 speed was pretty beefy

Is that actually true that they were worried about an extra 14 ft/lbs.? That is very scary for those modding their cars if it is.

Easy rocket scientists....:encouragement:

Rated for reliability is not the same as maximum capable. All cars are actually underrated quite a bit for added safety. If they were rated for what they were built they would be spending more time in the shop.
