As stated on the other forum, looks great. Especially like the front and rear bumper accents and the red brake calipers. Definitely a nice touch.

At first glance, it looked like a UK 500L. They have the black on the sides and the front/rear black accents. But theirs are kind of plastic/textured. Fiat UK should definitely take note of what you've done and go for the gloss! It looks great!

I wouldn't mind seeing the black accents done in white too, to match the white roof on other cars. Oh, I would so love to see that on the white over light blue or the white over tan.

And I'd love to see the black accents on the black over tan 500L.

Thank you for the nice feedback everyone!

Our goal was to put together a good looking and performing 500L. Improving the look and performance of the car while keeping it a pleasant daily driver (for my wife and our little girl).

My wife had to give up her Blue 500 Widebody Convertible once we had our child, so we had to make this L a fun ride and transfer some of the performance feel while making sure that it is reliable and comfortable for daily use at the same time.

If you are in the So Cal Area and want to see the car in person you can see the car on display on October 3-6 at the Motor Trend Auto Show in Orange County or at the LA Auto Show in November. At times it is also at our shop, but since it is now our family car it is getting a lot of use and is always on the road.

Here is a list of mods on the car (so far):

MADNESS 500L Lowering Springs 1.2" drop
MADNESS Dual Exhaust (Prototype)
MADNESS Hi Flow Intake (Prototype)
MADNESS GOPedal
MADNESS ECU (new improved version)
MADNESS HID Kit
SMD Interior Light Kit
Color Matched Interior Dash and Gear Shift Trim (White)
Custom 500L Gear Shift Boot by BLACK
Window Tint
Roof Tint
All Chrome removed and redone in matching White
All Badging removed and redone in matching White
Trim and Accent Pieces removed and redone in Gloss Black
PTP Turbo Blanket
Turbo Actuator
Upgraded Throttle Body
Stubby Antenna
MADNESS Custom Floor Mats (coming soon)
Wheel Stud Conversion
Wilwood Custom Brake Kit (modified by us to fit the 500L)
Custom Team Dynamics 18" Wheels made exclusively for MADNESS for this application

What we can honestly say is that this car performance like no other 500L found on the dealers lot! It handles and performs like ABARTHs Big Brother. So, if you are thinking of adding a 500L as a family car to your garage we can certainly help with making it a bit more fun!

Many more items are in development, so stay tuned....

As always thank you for your support.

I love the dual exhaust! What HP gains have you achieved with the mods that you have done so far?

That interior does look pretty sharp!

We have been working without our partner seat cover manufacturer and will shortly introduce really good looking and fitting Neoprene Seat Covers for the 500L. Once we have them installed we will take additional pics and update everyone.

Since we are using this car as our "family car" and have a little girl strapped in to a baby seat along with a stroller and many other "child accessories" the interior will get some serious use. That is why we went with the basic (easy to stain) interior and will be installing the new seat covers that are very durable, comfortable and easy to clean. Plus they look sharp!

Thank you! The exhaust has a nice growl, but not too aggressive for a "family vehicle". I have driven behind my wife as she romps on the gas and the car sounds sweet. Between the sound of the intake and the growl of the exhaust no one will mistake it for a stock family car. At the same time we should be fine with the local law enforcement.

As far as power output... We should be at around 200hp right now based on the mods we have done. We have a few more things to do and once done we will do some additional fine tuning and then put it on a dyno. The biggest issue with dyno numbers is not the max HP rating, but the power curve since most are not driving around at 6,500rpm.

The other issue is anyone doing dyno runs on these cars (and the 500) is having proper cooling. Most dyno shops are used to doing Hondas and Mustangs and do not have the proper cooling fans for these types of engines.

I just came back from spending a week in Germany with Pogea Racing and seeing their half a million dollar dyno set up and can honestly say that 99% of the dynos folks are using here are not giving them accurate data. I watched Eduard Pogea raise and lower temperatures going to the FIAT by 5-10 degrees to show me how the engine automatically de tunes itself as temps change. It was an eye opener!

We are now on a search for a proper dyno set up since most are not properly equipped for our cars and will not give out proper numbers. Once we find one we will then redo many cars in our stable. The nice part is all the numbers we have stated before have been understated rather then overstated.

So, to go back to the 500L performance... The car has fantastic torque and goes like h...! Rachel (my wife and driver of the L) has done burn outs by accident until she got used to the new power and torque.

We upgraded the brakes in the front and then color matched the rears. This beast stops on a dime!

Thank you! That was the goal. We wanted to put together a clean concept and upgrade the handling and power to make this a great looking and performing family "ABARTH like" car.

We have already upgraded a number of 500L cars at our shop with some of these upgrades and have actually had local FIAT Studios take their 500L customers directly to us when they complained about the lag, power, handling or anything else about the car to show them what can be done.

The car de-tunes itself with temp changes? Fascinating

Thank you, but please be nice to others that have also caught the customizing bug and decided to set their 500L apart from the crowd. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Glad you like our version, but the other version presented by another vendor also has some unique features that we like.

I edited my original post. No opinions allowed, got it. Pm me next time, instead of reposting it in a comment. :) I was nice when they asked for opinions and I didn't comment on it.

I edited the response to your comment.

I thank you for your positive feedback. My concern was the negative feedback on another vendors car. We try our very best to keep it light, be friendly and helpful to everyone and it was just a friendly suggestion.

Thanks for understanding. :-)

Correct. The ECU in the FIAT is pretty advanced. As it senses higher incoming temps it is designed to detune itself for safety reasons and to optimize fuel mileage. If you are putting your FIAT on a dyno you will not get correct HP and Torque readings if there is not enough airflow coming in from the cooling fans that dyno shops have. Some have a proper set up, but most have a couple of small fans that they just place in front of the intercoolers. If that is the case, the readings will not much lower then expected. That is why some are able to get well over 190HP from the dyno and some can barely break 160.

I have personally watched an ABARTH struggle to break 130HP and once proper fans were put in place the same car easily broke 160HP (same dyno, same day).

Not trying to start another debate with anyone, just sharing information that may be helpful to others.

Back to the L, where are the interior shots? I see in your earlier post that you have made some interior enhancements as well. I would love to see the white interior pieces (I imagine it lightens up the interior quite a bit).

The car is actually at the Motor Trend show in OC right now, but when it gets back we'll post up a bunch of interior shots!

sbulla,

We actually pulled all those panels off and painted them black then re-installed. Really gives the 500L a sharp new look.

Are you planning on doing something similar?

Absolutely!

We are in the process for planning a FIAT Car Show at our location with a full block party, BBQ, live entertainment and etc. Don't have a date yet, but working with the city to get the block closed off for the day. Once we have it set up we will make an announcement and that may be a good excuse for the road trip.

We put several prototypes together and were going to put on in production, but at about the same time the guys at Injen told us they were about to release one. Once we seen it we realized it was about the same as the one were going to do, so we held off.

We are running one on our own L, but honestly while I like the intake noise on the ABARTH it is a bit too loud for a daily, family driver in my opinion. My wife loves the sound, but I am not as crazy about it so we are working on another design incorporating a BMC Canister. It should give it a nice boost, but with less sound.

The Injen on is a nice product. If you are OK with the intake noise then it is a good choice. If you want something more refined and are OK with investing more (the BMC Canister is pricey) then wait. We should have another option in about 30-60 days.
