I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that made the differences between cars clearer. So a few years ago I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track cars closely as they age.

We've had excellent participation by Fiat 500 owners. I've love to have reliability stats for the 500L as well--just a matter of getting enough owners involved!

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, following the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for the 500L, for free. I'll share results for the 500L in this thread after each update (once we have them).

A Toblerone? That's a bit random! (Or perhaps I'm just missing the reference.)

Hum, sorry that was my Italian sense of humor : ---> toblerone ( I am a chocolate addict ). Jokes aside I will put some information on the site later on.

Thanks, Fazzster!

Six now enrolled, a good start. I hope we have 25+ soon, with 40+ ideal.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to being able to provide stats for the 500L. We won't have them with next month's update, but as long as people keep joining we'll have some in May.

I joined Truedelta for both the 500 and 500L. I also posted a Why/Why not this car review for the 500L. Others that have joined truedelta may want also post a review.

Thanks, guys, much appreciated! I do everything I can to provide great info, but in the end it's up to the number of owners contributing.

Just add my first tank of gas to TrueDelta, 230 Mile 10.858 (90% city 2-5 miles between cold starts) I normally drive 1.7 miles, stop and pick coffee ...etc and then drive a .3 miles to the office. The 2 miles back home in the afternoon. About 9 traffic lights normally get about 50% of them green. 10% of tank was 65 on the freeway.

If you're looking under areas of the site where we don't have information for the 500L, it won't be listed. If you're trying to join the site with it, it should be listed. Let me know if you're unable to do the latter.

Working on the former--a big help from the people here who've already joined. 25 now! With a few more we could have a stat without an asterisk in May.

We have an initial reliability stat for the 500L based on owner experiences through March 31, 2014, making them nearly a year ahead of other sources.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 500L: 18, low, small sample size

Thank you, once again, everyone who has been helping. Next update in August.

We've updated our reliability stats for the 500L to include owner experiences through June 30, 2014 (making them about 14 months ahead of some others).

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 500L: 38, moderate

Next updates in November and in February. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

Have the 2015s reached dealers yet? Looking forward to seeing how the second model year compares.

Additional 2014s would also improve the precision of these stats.

Just found the thread. Have put I'm for my new 500L.
Knowing what to look for can extend the life you intend for a vehicle.
Just as am example. I found about known cooling system leaks on my wife's car. That car now has 250k miles and still running strong.

We've updated our reliability stats for the 500L to include owner experiences through September 30, 2014.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 500L: 41, moderate

New stuff this time. We've updated our reliability stats for the 500L to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. Plus we've added reliability trends graphs. These indicate how a model's reliability has changed as it has aged, and how different model years performed when the same age.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2014 500L: 36, moderate

We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be. We especially need more 2015s.

Updated stats for the 2014 soon.

While 50 people have signed up for the 2014, only two have signed up for the 2015. Do many people here have 2015s? Or were there still plenty of 2014s available even after the beginning of 2015?

Even with the 2014, additional participants are always helpful--there's no such thing as an overly large sample size.

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the 500L now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

2014 500L: 63, high

Next updates in August and November. Additional participants badly needed for the 2015, so we can see how the second model year compares (probably better).

Our Trekking is now at 34k with no issues. I will be changing the plugs and giving her an oil change tomorrow. We still love this car after 2 years of ownership which is saying a lot for me. I tend to be picky and switch cars after 2-3 years. The trunk is deceptive, it looks small but can fit a whole lot. We packed the family (3 kids/2 adults), 1 full size cooler, 1 full size suitcase, 1 bag of food, 1 giant beach bag and 3 bike helmets in the trunk...2 kids bikes on the roof and one on the trailer hitch. The car never felt weighted down and the engine was happy at 75 on the highway. We averaged 29 mpg on a 200 mile trip. This is truly a great car.

Now have about 10,400 miles on our 2014 Trekking DDCT with essentially no issues. I really love the transmission and the little 1.4 liter turbo. Recently did a round trip Bucks County to Camel Back (Big Pocono State Park) in PA (about 100 miles in total) and managed 34 m.p.g. On a leisurely trip today from New Jersey to PA (net elevation gain of about 100 feet or so) I managed 38 m.p.g. Just a joy to drive, though I do tend to drive it fairly easy. Nevertheless it's still plenty of fun if you want to hustle it a bit through the twisties. And again, I have to comment that I think the ride its suspension provides is truly outstanding while still keeping the car well buttoned down. Great car, and I have zero buyer's remorse.

That's quite an endorsement!!! Good to hear as many of my buds have given me the strangest looks when they heard about our new L(History over the last 14 years has been with Volvo, Lexus and Acura). I like the look of the Trekking ; but DW was more into the retro Lounge...light Graphite Lounge it is!!!

Our reliability stats for the 500L now cover the year ending June 30, 2015. (Others are over a year behind, and so report how these cars were doing when a year younger.)

Repair trips per 100 cars:

2014 500L: 51, moderate

We especially need more participants to cover the 2015 and up.

We've updated our reliability stats for the 500L to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

2014 500L: 41, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2014 500L: 71, < 1

We've updated our reliability stats for the 500L to include owner experiences through June 30, 2016. Reliability information elsewhere is based on a survey conducted in April 2015--well over a year ago.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year (lower is better):

2014 500L: 21, low

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2014 500L: 86, < 1
