Has anyone tried ceramic brake pads? The brake dust on white wheels is killing me, and the wheels too.:banghead:

That is the first thing I thought when I saw the white wheels. I see my neighbor polishing his white wheels on a regular basis and they never look clean for long.

Not on my 500 but on my (previous) red MINI that had white powder coated rims - night and day difference.

Thanks for the link. Noticing the hydrophobic properties of the product, I'm wondering if there's a natural household substitute that would replicate the anti-brake dust effect. Time for some experimentation...

Pledge? LOL :)

I was thinking more along the lines of something oily (potentially food based). Even if it doesn't prevent dust build-up, it may aid in dust removal (easy spray down). Of course, it may have the opposite effect, so it'll come down to trying a few things out. I can appreciate the product mentioned, but I have a feeling its dust-preventative properties may be replicated easily...

Even better AND food based?

Has anyone contacted Carbotech yet? They list pads for the 500 (http://ctbrakes.com/pads.asp?Make=Fiat&Model=500), but I'm not sure if that includes the Abarth too.

Yep, one of the automotive chemical makers makes a Pam like spray that they use in NASCAR. They spray the back side of their wheels to stop the build up of brake dust. Before that, they did use Pam.

Even if you clean your wheels every few days there will be some metal particles that will try to embed themselves into the paint of the wheel, these look like small black specks that will NOT come off no matter how hard to you scrub.

This stuff, called iron-x
http://www.amazon.com/Carpro-Iron-Remover-500-Ml/dp/B004UM6DLE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379510829&sr=8-1&keywords=iron+x

This is a paint safe product that sprays on clear and turns purple when it touches any iron particles.
it dissolves these stuff right off. Its also made to spray the whole car down with to remove rail dust, fallout, etc if you have white you will see this as tiny rust specks in the paint. This stuff pretty much cuts out the need to clay bar before you wax. (just dont get it on anything with a galvanized coating as it can discolor it, I have noticed this on my sparco hood pins. it polishes off but takes some elbow grease. any other surfaces it works amazing.

For Ceramic pads, Centric Posi Quiet Ceramic Pads are currently available, I have heard many great reviews on these pads for other vehicles. stock performance without the dust and they are VERY affordable, Ill be switching these to try out before winter hits as its going to be hard to sit out in the snowy driveway wiping down my wheels.

According to Centrics website, they only offer metallic pads in the front for the Abarth. I had emailed them a while ago to see if they were planning on releasing a ceramic pad, but they never responded. http://centriccatalog.com/Inquiry/AppResult.aspx?id=WEB_PADS&y=2013&m=7&mm=6454

I emailed them like 2 months ago and Erik there told me

"We do not currently have stock replacement pads in stock as we are awaiting our initial shipment, but you can see the part numbers for the PosiQuiet pad options for your vehicle at the link below:

These should be available within the next few months."

I wonder if he was referring to the posi quiet METALLIC or specifically the ceramic. If they every actually release ceramic pads I'll be placing my order right away; the brake dust on the front is awful!

Am I crazy or are the stock rears already ceramic? Maybe it's just the fronts that need to be changed?

IDK, on my Sparco Terras I get like pitch black DIRT in the pockets of the wheels, its strange.. its very dry and pools up in the corners..

Powerstop responded to my message and they are saying fronts should be in stock in about 90 days.

The reason why everyone has REARS and not FRONTS is that they are the same pad-part number for NON Abarth 500s.
