So I've had this annoying rattle coming from the back of my car for a while. Today I jacked it up and found that the passenger side muffler hanger had fallen out of the rubber mount. I pushed it back in and went for a test drive. To my dismay, that wasn't the source of the rattle. Back up on the jack it went. Looking around, I started lightly tapping on the vapor canister. Something internally is rattling. What's odd is, the housing is plastic, but the rattle is clearly metallic.

Anyone have any thoughts? Of course I should probably just schedule a visit with the local studio, but just curious if anyone else has had this issue?

Here's a couple of pics of the unit:

Its most likely the rear exhaust bracket located right above the passenger exhaust tip. Its a metal bracket with an internal rubber hanger covered with a thin rubber coating. Once this rubber coating wears away its metal to metal, I have the same issue, a little re-positioning and its gone.

See that's what I assumed it was as well. But no dice. After I repositioned the hanger I went for another test drive and the rattle was still very prominent. The first thing I checked was the hanger and it was still in place. I assumed it had shifted or something. Unfortunately that wasn't the case

I was going to recommend the same repairs..options. If you cant discover the source of the noise plainly from underneath the vehicle, I would schedule an appointment. I know its a pain if the dealer is a ways away (just for a noise) , maybe couple it will an upcoming maintenance....

Stacey, It could be something loose adjacent to/near the canister, loose nut, bolt, etc.? Finding rattling noises is a PITA. I had an annoying rattle in the rear: thought it was the exhaust hanger (no), diffuser (no), finally started tapping lower rear spring mount, and low and behold, found rattle from loose perch ring on lower strut housing (problem solved).
