If you ever wonder how well put together your FIAT is, take heart. All cars have hiccups and once in a while a seizure or two. Nothing is perfect in an imperfect world. If you subscribe to Consumer Reports, they did not recommend the FIAT 500. Just missed it, they say. Well, don't let that discourage you from getting a 500. Most of their complains had to do with the size of the car, not enough room, a stiff ride, high noise levels and an uncomfortable driving position. But they also said it was a nifty car to drive. Well, I'm of Italian descent and the driving position is fine for me. The ride is a bit stiff on rough roads, in particular the 500 Sport, but it's never punishing. Trust me you won't lose your genitals if you have any! What it does have is excellent handling and braking, superb fuel economy and style in spades. The list of standard equipment is impressive, even in the base Pop. No, it's not fast, but most of us don't need a nose bleed when accelerating.

What does this have to do with the recalls. Well, the FIAT has amassed only one recall, and only for 340 cars manufactured from October 24, 2011 through October 26, 2011. Here is the recall:
Original Recall from the NHTSA

Model Year(s): 2012

Consequence: THIS COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Incorrect vehicle weight rating label
April 09, 2013, Model Year(s):2010, 2011

Vehicles have a tire size/weight rating label to inform owners of the carrying capacity of their vehicle. These models are being recalled because the incorrect vehicle weight rating is shown on the information label. This could result in vehicle and tire overloading, increasing the risk of tire failure. Owners will be provided an updated vehicle weight label to correct this concern.

The master window switch may overheat
October 10, 2012, Model Year(s):2007, 2008, 2009

Toyota and General Motors are recalling certain models because the power window master switch assembly in some of these vehicles was built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assembly. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat. This could result in the switch melting or possibly catching fire. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the master window switch as necessary.

Brake light switch may fail
March 07, 2012, Model Year(s):2009

During assembly, the electrical contacts of the stop lamp switch may have been contaminated with silicone grease, causing increased electrical resistance in the switch. This could result in: Illumination of warning lamps; a no start condition; the shift lever may not shift from the Park position; and/or inoperative brake lights. Inoperative brake lights would fail to warn other drivers the vehicle is slowing or stopping, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the brake light switch to correct this concern.

Various issues due to failed crankshaft pulley
November 09, 2011, Model Year(s):2005

The amount of adhesive applied between the inner and outer parts of the crankshaft pulley may be inadequate. If this is the case, the outer ring may become misaligned and/or not properly rotate with the inner ring, causing an abnormal noise and/or illumination of the Check Engine Light. In some cases, the power steering belt could come off resulting in a loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the crankshaft pulley and replace it if necessary.

Load carrying modification label missing
May 27, 2010, Model Year(s):2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010

These vehicle were sold without the required load carrying captivity modification label. Dealers will mail the corrected label to vehicle owners. Owners have the option of requesting that the dealer install the label. This recall is expected to begin on May 27, 2010.

Toyota recalls certain 2010 camrys due to possible brake fluid leak
March 04, 2010, Model Year(s):2010

Toyota is recalling certain 2010 Camrys because the length of the power steering pressure hose on 4-cylinder engines may be insufficient, leaving a gap. This may cause the brake tube to interfere with the crimp, wear, and then perforate. This can cause a leak in the brake fluid, which adversely impacts braking performance. Dealers will replace or adjust the brake tube free of charge.

Toyota recalls certain 20052010 models for vehicle speed control problem
February 05, 2010, Model Year(s):2007, 2008, 2009, 2010

Toyota is recalling 20052010 Avalon; 20072010 Camry, 20092010 Corolla, Corolla Matrix, and Rav4; 2010 Highlander; 20082010 Sequoia; and 20072010 Tundra models because the sliding surface of the friction lever may become smooth during operation, which can cause condensation. This may cause the accelerator pedal to become harder to depress, slower to return, or to become stuck in a partially depressed position, which can increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will install a reinforcement bar in the accelerator pedal so it will operate smoothly.

Toyota recalls 20042010 vehicles due to stuck-open accelerator pedal
December 31, 2009, Model Year(s):2007, 2008, 2009, 2010

Toyota is recalling 20042010 models for an accelerator pedal that can get stuck in the wide open position due to problems with the floor mat. This may cause high vehicle speeds that make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which can result in a crash. In order to correct the problem, dealers will replace the pedals, alter the shape of the floor, and/or replace the floor mats. Toyota will also modify software on certain models to ensure that the brake overrides the accelerator in the event that both are applied.

All weather floor mats may interfere with accelerator if not secured properly
October 08, 2007, Model Year(s):2007

The accessory add-on all weather floor mats as purchased by a vehicle owner may slide up and restrict accelerator pedal movement. This could cause the accelerator pedal to stick. Dealers will replace the affected driver's side mat only for owners with an accessory all weather mat kit. The Toyota recall number is 70F. The Lexus recall number is 7LB. This recall began in October 2007.

And that's just one car. You should see the rest! I miss my FIAT 500 Sport. It had a few problems which could've been solved, but my impulsive nature decided to sell it. Bad move. But don't count me out yet, I will be back!!!

What??? Doesn't that translate "undervalued resale", meaning the owner losses money and the new buyer gets a better car? NEVER A GOOD THING FOR THE ORIGINAL OWNER. :cussing:

This is the downside of all the deep discounting. Depressed resale value.:dejection:
