View Full Version : Check engine light twice now

steady check engine light came on my 500L Easy at 1700 miles. Took 9 days to get an appointment to have it checked out. It ran fine so I knew it wasn't something serious. Light stopped coming on about 4 days later. Report from the dealer is a delayed response from the O2 sensor. It reset itself, don't worry about it. Well, light came on again today just two days after I had it in. Not a good sign that a brand new car has the check engine light come on twice. I'm hoping it's just another in the growing list of software issues with these things that will get fixed. Hazards of owning the first run of a new model.

Loose gas cap?

Believe it or not, the 500L does not have a gas cap. There is this cup thing built into the door that when you close the door it covers the gas hole. The Fiat service rep didn't even know that one lol! I had to show him. That's not what the code came back for either way. I read on another forum about others with the same issue with the check engine light for the O2 sensor. As long as the car runs normal, not to big of a deal until they resolve it.

I didn't know that! As long as it works, not having the gas cap around to bang into the side of the car is a blessing!

If you can, and you are near an AutoZone and the light is on, stop by and get the code so we can see what it is. Thanks!

I have one in the area, I'll try and run across town and have them pull the code.

Code came back as P113D

Hope this helps. I had to dig for this as it is buried and not where I would expect it in the guide, but the dealership should have a detailed troubleshooting procedure to take care of this.

P113D-O2 SENSOR 1/1 SLOW RESPONSE (HIGH FREQUENCY)

When Monitored:
With the minimum engine run time of 30 seconds, Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) at least 60C (140F), engine RPM between 1400 and 2900, vehicle speed between 48.3 kph (30 mph) and 115 kph (71.5 mph), and O2 Sensor in closed loop operation.

Set Condition:The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects that the Oxygen Sensor signal does not switch adequately at high frequency. Two Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.

Possible Causes

O2 SENSOR 1/1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT

O2 SENSOR CURRENT PUMP CIRCUIT

O2 SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT

EXHAUST SYSTEM LEAK OR RESTRICTION

INTAKE SYSTEM LEAK OR RESTRICTION

FUEL PRESSURE TOO LOW OR TOO HIGH

FOULED OR LEAKING FUEL INJECTOR
