I picked up this beautiful 6 speed manual transmission Trekking prepped from the factory with Collection #3 and also included a compact spare tire, which surprised me since I've read that some are having trouble sourcing them. I guess FIAT is putting them on some vehicles in the production chain.

Initial impressions are it is comfy, roomy, and has plenty of power out of the box. More impressions later as I get through break-in and put some more seat time in it. Santa Monica Fiat was awesome and I would highly recommend them if anyone is looking at getting into a FIAT.

Collection #3 includes:
Uconnect® System 6.5” VP3 Screen with Navigation ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera+ParkSense® Rear Park Assist System+Rear Seat Armrest with Cup Holder Automatic Temperature Control with Dual Zone Control Driver's Seat 4-Way Lumbar Adjust SiriusXM Satellite Radio + 115-Volt Auxiliary Power Outlet Auto Dim Rearview Mirror Beats Audio™

Congrats, I do like the looks of the Trekking more and hopefully soon I get to see one in person. :)

Oh, that's GREAT, n00dle! Congrats!

A shot or two of the interior would be nice. I love the black/brown combo. And I've been confused as to the color of the dash in the Trekking. What color is your dash?

Love the interior! I love that brown!

I didn't know about the power outlet! Better hide that from the 500e owners, lest they try to siphon off your new Trekking! haha

I'd love to see that brown as an exterior color choice. Not metallic.

I just noticed that the white with black 500e kind of looks like your Trekking. Look at the face picture here:

And that the Trekking has Abarth style gills.

So glad to hear you're having a good time with your new Trekking!

Headed into the Santa Monica Mtns. The canyon roads helped bed the brake pads to the rotors and put in some quality break-in miles. :)

As some may know there are 2 glove boxes. The top one is also a drink cooler. This pictures shows a dial inside the right side of the glove box, this dial directs cool or cold air from the AC into the glove box. Pretty neat!

The 500L is nice and quiet for those who appreciate it in part due to this mid-muffler that's in addition to the rear muffler.

YOU HAVE IT!

The drink cooler, with a dial.

Other people have a hole where the dial would be.

It's not on all cars.

Edit: does air blow INTO the glove box, and if so, from where?

I didn't realize there were others who are missing it. I suppose it may be installed at the dealership during presale and prep? It's not uncommon for other manufacturers to include some small parts like the antenna, floor mats, and license plate holders to be installed at the dealership or at the docks prior to delivery. Perhaps someone didn't know what the dial was or where it went?

I just bumped up another thread: http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?11020-Air-Conditioned-Glove-Box-for-Drinks

Gave them a link to this thread.

Someone certainly dropped the ball on the dial, if all the cars should have it. Probably no one else knew what the dials were for. Your dealer may be the only one who does. LOL

It doesn't "blow", it seems to just direct cool air, it's not a refrigerator gr_grin. The vent is at 6 o'clock in the picture. It's a hole that I can stick my index finger into. There's a nub at 10 o'clock in the picture and that allows you to turn the dial to either open or close the hole.

We know about the cooling for the glovebox, it's just that the dial seems to be missing in all the cars, except n00dle's Trekking!

I was told by Fiat Cares that there is no cooler in the upper compartment. I begged to disagree. I was told that this is not an option, they are using a part from another vehicle that has this feature, but the L does not have it connected. I dropped the lower glove box and felt up in there and sure enough there is an elbow pipe connected to the vent but nothing connected to the elbow. I looked through the manual and there is nothing there either that explains this feature.

The sales folks need to stop selling it as if it comes with this feature.

It sounds like the parts are there for it to work, thanks to your investigation. All that's needed then would be a part to open/close the vent, and to make sure the vent opening aligns with the dial. If not, some drilling may be required.

I suppose the next proper step would be to pull the top glove box, and make sure the elbow pipe is OPEN and not capped closed. And if anything needed to be added on that side for best performance, like a seal.

What's on one should be on all.

n00dle, can you check to be sure there is air coming from the hole? Because I'm not seeing a hole behind the dial, in the image. The way the light reflects off the back of the glove box seems to be equal to the light reflecting from behind the hole in the dial.

So you may have a dial without a hole behind it.

The hole everyone else has may be for the dial itself and not the actual vent. I'd need to see pics of the hole other people have, and perhaps the dial on it's own.

We need to MacGyver this vent.

The early Toyota vans (the wedge-nose, mid-80s version) had two AC units - the front one also made ice or would keep a 6-pack or a brick of ice-cream cold on the way home from the store. Loved that van....
The ice trays were closed, so they didn't spill while they were freezing.

Hey n00dle! Could you take a look at the dash in this Trekking? It's a gloss black, at least it appears to be from the photos.

Your dash appears to be gray, which I think was called "Granite", only for the Trekking. That's why I asked you about your dash. There's no way the two dashes are the same.

Is there some kind of change or option for different dashes? I don't recall hearing of one.

The dash in my Trekking is not glossy. I've the pictures of those that have a glossy dash and was surprised. FIAT's website states and shows that the IP is covered, but mine is not.

I'm sorry, I don't understand "the IP is covered".

You have the dash that was shown at the Detroit Auto Show, scroll down here, third from the bottom:

The UK has the black white interior (in addition to the black brown) and they can get a white gloss dash for their Trekking:

Stone. Granite. Whatever. Scroll down to the bottom left under category "Why the FIAT® 500L Trekking?"
http://www.fiatusa.com/en/2014/500L/trekking/

It says:
"Premium Cloth Low Bucket Seats with Unique Trekking Styled Interior (Available Stone-Look Instrument Panel Bezels)"

Stone-look...that's what I was thinking of, but that's NOT the dash. That would be the part going around ...uh, Do you have stone-look anything? LOL.

I thought it referred to the dash.

Notice also the "uniquely appointed interior" pic shows a beige/tan dash. That's not in a Trekking at all. It's the tan Lounge dash, notice the steering wheel is also tan on the Trekking pics. The steering wheel is BROWN around black in the Trekking.

Scroll down to interior shots of the Lounge here:
http://www.fiatusa.com/en/2014/500L/lounge/

Open the Trekking pics in a separate window. They're showing the Lounge dash as the Trekking dash.

Oh, it says "Wrapped Up" when hovering over the icon that says "Wrapped IP". OHHHH, Instrument panel. I thought IP was a typo.

Re: "Unique Trekking Styled Interior (Available Stone-Look Instrument Panel Bezels"

The part I thought would be "Stone-Look" in the Trekking is the interior shot w/painted orange part in NGenFiat's pics here:

http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?11495-NGenFiat-com-just-completed-our-Tricked-Out-500L!

I did some looking around, and the dash being glossy black or matte gray seems to be random. This dealer had many Trekkings WITH actual photos, so I used them.

Gray dash:

I prefer the stone-look or a covered IP. A painted dash's reflections of the sun light into my eyes would annoy me.

Yes, the Trekking model is nicely appointed. I think it's substantial with a lot of nice details and Italian design. It's definitely got character.
