Took her from SD to LV last weekend, and on the way out, took some dirt roads to avoid traffic accident back-up. Then the red skies opened up and I was getting flash flood warning SMS txt's on my phone. It was an awesome time and kept up with an M3 in third going down that long grade into vegas, but had to back off due to speed after shifting into 4th. That was a surprise, especially in 108 degree whether. Also happy to report zero over-heating and hardly any loss of power even in death valley at 113 degrees on the way back yesterday, even up hills, the car was MOVIN'! While there are trade-offs to every design, I was very glad I had the cold air intake with a filter located not under the hood. I checked my oil at a gas station in Baker, and was so hot under the hood I could not even touch the plastic dip stick handle.

Some pics of the dirt road experience, just before the sky opened up like a bucket of water...

Great pictures Shagghie, my favorite is the second one. It looks like you don't have any wheels (at least on my IPAD) - nice!

Nice.

2 road trips planned out of San Diego for my new ABARTH; Monterey in 2 weeks, Lake Tahoe Labor Day. I'll burn through that warranty in 2 years!

Awesome pics, nothing like that here in NC that's for sure! Thanks for sharing your fire in the sky photo shoot!

I got stuck in that LV to SD #@$% show a couple of weeks ago. It was 115 deg (and stop and go) the whole way across the desert and I didn't have any problems either (big relief), even with the A/C on the #2/#3 setting.

Great shots btw.

If you do a search for Angel and Devil and Isabella you'll find another thread with better pics of the lenses, etc... but here's a few more from Vegas, some with the demon eyes on, but the photography doesn't do them justice given the low light/contrast challenges. The other thread gives you a much better idea...

Nice pics! They did a lot of high temperature testing in the desert and it paid off! One of the reasons there are dual intercoolers. Being an automotive engineer for Fiat was a dream job for me, but when I found out they sometimes do hundreds of miles everyday in the desert / artic conditions during validation tests I think I changed my mind!

Yeah, I mean the temp gauge never once moved from center/normal position. Even after bombing an uphill run in 3rd to redline, cresting the hill, and finding a parking lot of cars, it didn't budge. If any situation was going to cause heatsoak after a hard pull up a hill in 108degrees, that would have been it, b/c we came to a dead stop.
