Gotta say it...

The Lava blanket is freaking fantastic. If you're going to spend the money, you might as well just spend the $20 more and get the best product!

Both are great options and both are very effective in reducing heat in the engine bay.

These PTP Blankets are designed specifically for the 500, fit correctly and do a great job. We have been using them on our own cars and install them at our shop. All the feedback has been very positive and folks have been very please with the results. The team at PTP has been great to work with as well and their customer service has been top notch.

About a month ago they came to us with another option (Lava). This version was a bit pricier, but offered additional benefits over their regular blanket for those that want a bit more. We evaluated the product and requested that PTP put it in production for us. Now it is here and has proven to be very popular. Here is the main differences between the two:

Regular PTP Turbo Blanket Heat Tolerance:
Interior Surface:
Max Temperature Rating: 2300 Deg F / 1260 Deg C
Continuous Use Limit: 1832 Deg F / 1000 Deg C

Exterior Surface:
Direct Contact Limit: 1000 Deg F / 538 Deg C
Radiant Heat Limit: 1700 Deg F / 927 Deg C

Lava PTP Turbo Blanket Heat Tolerance:
Interior Surface:
Max Temperature Rating: 2300 F / 1260 C
Continuous Use Limit: 1832 F / 1000 C

Exterior Surface:
Direct Contact Limit: 1800 F / 982 C
Radiant Heat Limit: 2500 F / 1371 C

The difference is really noticeable in the Exterior Surface Temps.

Honestly whichever one you choose you will be happy. If you want a little more, then go for the LAVA option. If not, the regular one will work just fine. I have the regular one on my own car and it is probably one of the most modified ABARTHs out there (Bigger Turbo, Downpipe, Headers, Exhaust, Intake, ECU Module, GOPedal, Brakes, Suspension and much more).
