Electric cars finally come into their own
With 110-year history, EVs finally come into their own
Doug Guthrie

"You can thank California for forcing automakers down the electric path again.

Carmakers have to build and sell electric and low exhaust emission hybrids if they want to keep selling more profitable internal combustion cars and trucks in the nationís largest vehicle market.

The deal is looking better and better for consumers. You can own most of these cars for less than $30,000. A couple sell for less than $20,000, after the $7,500 federal tax credit. Californians get another $2,500 from their green-friendly state.

With EPA-estimated annual fuel costs of $500, the Spark EV, Fiat 500e, Honda Fit EV, Scion iQ EV1 and Nissan Leaf will save $9,250 compared with the average 23 mpg car over the five-year life of a car loan."
