View Full Version : They're out there, waiting!

I was looking at a link from a Gucci thread, and found there are a couple of 500e's waiting to be adopted. I'm guessing if they are on the site, they aren't spoken for yet or haven't been bought yet. Or perhaps they are in the process of being purchased right now and they'll be gone tomorrow, like the other one posted was.

Grigio with optional white interior and grigio with black (non-eSport) at
http://www.ocfiat.com/new-inventory/index.htm?start=140

Those two are actually there, according to the webpage. Be sure to look at the window sticker, as they are using the grigio w/black photo for both. ALWAYS look at the window sticker, so you know what you're getting.

They also have several more on the way. A black/black, non-eSport, pic shows eSport. Black/white, non-eSport (pic of black eSport). Not one, but TWO Orange/white (orange only comes with white). And a Pearl white/black with sunroof.

I'll go look around a bit today, to see what other dealers might have on the lot or coming in.

edit, just checked this dealership, and there is also a black with white showing up now (no longer "in transit"):

Kearny Mesa (San Diego) has a bunch on the way: http://www.fiatusaofsandiego.com/new-inventory/index.htm?start=175

Bob Baker (Carlsbad) has black/black with sunroof and actual pics, and it doesn't have the orange headrests, I wonder why.

Plus three more on the way

Walter's (Riverside) in transit: http://www.fiatusaofriverside.com/new-inventory/index.htm?start=70

Wait, I'll just put in the places that HAVE cars right now. By saying they HAVE cars, I mean the cars don't show up as being in transit. Which means they should be there on the lot.

AutoNation (Hawthorn) has two, Grigio/black eSport, Grigio/black eSport w/sunroof

Don't forget, you can view all the combinations on this page, by scrolling down to thumbnails:
http://www.autoevolution.com/news/fiat-500e-electrifies-us-ahead-of-la-debut-photo-gallery-52285.html

And if you REALLY wanted the eSport but can't find it, consider one of the regular 500e with the black interior. All the eSport package components are cosmetic, and most (if not all) should be available to buy separately. The black out lighting also comes on the double black interior Gucci and the Turbo model. I don't know if the electric has special lights, but still they should be available as eSport owners will need parts too (eventually). The mirror covers, the side stripe, the wheels, those should be available too, through the dealer. Probably costing way more than they would if bought in the eSport package. So you can create your own eSport if you have to.

As far as the orange headrests shown as the regular black interior on the Fiat site, I don't know what's up with those. I saw in pictures a regular 500e with black interior and it has black headrests. And in one of the early reviews/articles on the 500e eSport, it also had the black headrests on the black seats. If anyone sees the orange headrest with the black interior, post and let us know what car it's on, regular or eSport.

Did everyone get a car today that wanted one? Should I check again tomorrow?

Lots of cars are coming in, and there are ALWAYS popular colors in an area. Even if you're on a waiting list at one place, you might be able to find YOUR car at another dealership. It might be THE most popular color at your dealership while not being popular two cities over.

It was like that when I was looking for cars of various colors of the regular 500. I looked all over the US. Where two dealerships fairly close together had about the same stock, and then a much further dealer from the first two had very different stock.

I was thinking it would be different for the 500e, as it's been mentioned that no one would have to wait for the car of their choice, it would come right from the fully stocked NoCal and SoCal warehouses. Which could mean that all the cars coming in are already spoken for?

Maybe they were originally spoken for, but the first person it was offered to changed their mind or something. So it's up for grabs. I dunno.

One more idea. I believe that the 500e is the same shape as the 500, except for the lower grilles and exterior mirrors. So, all the current Fiat graphics should work.

A couple people didn't care for the black with white accents. But there are side and roof graphics in white that can help pull the look together if you hesitate to have ONLY the front/rear grilles in white (shown on Pop in the UK):

It's after midnight, making this Tuesday morning. In my area, San Francisco Bay Area, the 500e doesn't sit on lots long enough for it to show "on Studio lot". I think all the people that are on a list at a dealership are picking up the cars as fast as they come in.

There is ONE showing at McKevitt, but I think it was sold today. A Grigio eSport:

I've been checking both the Fiat Inventory search AND manually going to individual dealers. Everything does NOT show up on the Fiat Inventory Search, and I think only those dealers who PAY to have results show up on the main Fiat page.

My interest is in getting people cars. Alerting people that are on lists to be ready for their car to arrive. Alerting others that there may well be a car just sitting on the lot that wasn't spoken for yet.

Things don't always go as planned, and some people may not be able to do their list deal this week, for instance. They could be out of town, vacationing or on business trip. Someone else is sick. Someone else bought somewhere else (people may have gone to several dealerships to be on a list). So I figure there's no harm in calling any dealer about any car, whether it's on the lot or on the way in. The very worst they can say is "It's sold". They can say it in a lot of ways, but it still comes down to the car being available or not.

I see that people have looked this thread, but nobody replies. I don't know if this is useful or not. I certainly enjoy looking for the cars, but my hope is to be helpful. It makes me feel like I have a job, and I get to be productive. Then again, maybe it's a source of amusement to see how long I will go on posting to myself, both for me and for everyone viewing the thread. :::shrug:::

Great! Now I'm happy. Thanks for letting me know it wasn't all in vain.

With the group on the way to San Jose now, you're right up there in the top ten after these are sold, right?

When I've checked certain dealers daily, the cars come in, and the cars go out. And more cars come in. And more cars go out. You can tell just by clicking some of the direct links to certain cars, and if the link takes you to the dealers main page, that means the car is gone.

Let us know when you get your new 500e!

Thanks Andree for the vigilance. You rock@! Also live in SF with a Grigio Abarth (from McKevitt). Really want a 500e. Orange? The incentives are good. I would feel better stabbing the accelerator in the Abarth if balance could be had with electric!

Wait, so you want to get an electric in addition to the Abarth?

I think there are several people here who would do that too, if the cars were available outside of California.

If you qualify for all the incentives ($10,000) and keep the car five years, and use the car for around 15,000 miles per year, you end up saving about $10,000 in gas costs. Which makes the out of pocket expense for the electric after five years of usage to be about $12,000-$14,000.

Here it is, side by side comparison:
http://fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=33396&id=33028

You can use the personalization to enter your average miles to get a better idea. And you can do the cars separately, so you can put the majority of miles on the 500e, while using the Abarth as the weekend car. Then you can see what you save on each, driven as separate cars.

Also, since you're in California, using the Abarth only for weekends will reduce the overall miles on the car and may therefore qualify you for an insurance discount on the Abarth and then there would probably be a multi-car discount too.

Have you put a deposit down at McKevitt? I know another person said there was a long waiting list for cars there, but the cars just came in en masse. Truckload here, truckload there, and that really clears the list fast. Plus, there are all these cars, that show up on the site, and I'm not sure if they are spoken for or not.

Some of the cars on the various dealer sites have sat 1-2 days. I think this orange/white has been in Carlsbad for three days!!!
http://www.bobbakerfiat.com/new/FIAT/2013-FIAT-d40edf880a0a0049013e9bda8d8e43c9.htm

It may have been promised to someone on a list, but it's not sold yet and the person/people who wanted that combo might not be able to do it just right now.

I still don't know if anyone out there has bought one of these cars from something I posted. I'd like to think so, maybe one or two. Fellow insomniacs or early risers who see/follow the thread and decide to zip down first thing in the morning for one of these cars.

Everyone can check on their own, of course. But not everyone has the time to check several dealers daily. I'm not checking ALL dealers every day. But if folks checked their own dealer AND check this thread, they might find their car sooner. I hope.

It would be cool to have the Grigio Abarth and the Electric Orange e. Night and day! Or you could match your Abarth and totally confuse people when some days you show up with a silent car and other days with a growler!

Usual reminder: Check the window sticker!

I check the window sticker on every link I put up, to be sure I'm giving out the right info.

I noticed upon review of the Costa Mesa links, there are now pictures and prices. Great. Except the pictures are not reflecting the actual vehicle colors. They are showing the white accent exterior cars (which would mean the cars have white interior). Those cars have the black accent with the black interior.

If you don't read the window sticker, you won't know this, because there is no description of the interior/color accent in the dealership description.

Aw, shucks. That's a bummer.

Glad though, that Bob Baker has a demo available so people can actually try it out. All the people that aren't quite sure have the option to decide after taking a test drive. That would probably be a good idea for everyone on the lists. If it turns out the 500e isn't what someone wanted, they can get off the list so other people have a chance.

Question for you Franke760:

Do you get to pick and choose your color combo, or do they just call you as the cars come in and you can take it or leave it? Are all the cars coming in specifically customer-ordered combinations?

And thank you for letting me know. I didn't know. I hoped that some people would have a chance of being able to just walk in and get a car.

My electric car dreams dashed on the rocky shores of reality. Wah. Pout. Sigh.

Now what can I do to have a fake job? I'm going to go rake dirt.

Cannot. Break. 500e. Addiction.

I decided to leave the "paid search" part of the link in, because that IS how I find them on the Fiat site via Search New Inventory. Dealers should know that they are paying for something worthwhile.

But I'd like to see the entire stock of all dealers. I think it would be useful for car buyers.

If you were to get the call for the "available sooner" car, and chose it, then what you wanted will be coming in without a primary buyer. That car then becomes the "available sooner" which bounces around on the list of waiting people.

Same thing with being on two lists for one car. When you buy at one place, that car becomes available at the other place.

So excited for you. Hope you can post some pics when you get your car!!

Thanks Tweak! Did you get yours yet?

A 500e won't be in my future for a couple reasons. Price is one, me living in NC is another and lastly I don't drive too far too often but my Abarth takes me on an occasional long drive which the 500e simply could not make. Love seeing people that can get these and the thoughts and pics they share though. :)

Another thought on the "available sooner" cars.

Sometimes it helps me to see things by taking them to the extreme, like "What if everyone did it?" or "What if no one did it?".

If everyone wanted ONE 500e, but were on TWO lists, that means half the cars coming in aren't really spoken for.

The customer will buy their car from whomever has it first. The second car coming in for that customer will go unclaimed.

If there were 1,000 cars coming in, that leaves 500 cars available for the general public.

We know that everyone isn't on two lists, but it could still leave several cars going unclaimed, available to the next person to walk in the door, once the lists have been gone through.

It's a good reason to check the incoming cars, to read the window stickers, and to be READY at a moment's notice to race down to any Studio for that "extra" car. Even if you aren't on a list.

Access to an electrical outlet that would allow the plugging in of an electric vehicle.

Like a garage with electricity. Or a car port adjacent to a residential structure with an electrical outlet.

Completely off topic now: My neighbors are insane. I keep hearing a random "yee-haw" in a rather falsetto voice. Hoots. Hollers. An alcohol-influenced version of "Happy Birthday". I have this sound input while reading online, accompanying your post, which resulted in:

Great news!

Not sure what you mean for the chargers, to buy for your home? Or to use locally away from home?

If it's to use locally, there is a handy map on the Fiat site to get you started (scroll down):
http://www.fiatusa.com/en/2013/500e/

You can zoom in/out, drag the map, click on one of the large numbers to zoom in on the chargers in the area.

500e owners will probably want to get used to specifying chargers for home use, and chargers for use on the go while posting.

Ooos! I meant for home use. (available for sale at the dealerships).

That I know nothing about, my friend. LOL. Call the Studio where you'll be picking up your car, and ask if they have the chargers in stock. Ask that the charger be included with the car, for your paperwork, if they can do that.

You will still want to browse the away-from-home chargers on the Fiat site or site of your choice, because you may not be able to get the charger installed on the very same day you get your car!

I have to read up more about the chargers/charging. There's the slower one and the faster one. Slower is pretty much overnight, and that's just a wall outlet, right? And the faster one is zippy quick in a couple hours. Even faster is the Tesla kind and I don't think it works on the Fiats (correct me if I'm wrong!!!). Find a few chargers in the wild with the faster charging option that you might use when away from home.

I looked around some more at the charger locations for fun. Found some at Home Depot. Found one at a DENTIST!! What a great idea. A trip to the dentist is never fast.

Figure out the kinds of things you do on a daily to weekly basis and where the chargers are in the vicinity is homework. If you usually go to one store, but another store has the charger, consider changing stores, shopping malls, home improvement stores, pharmacies, etc. It's an adventure! You may get to know new areas that you weren't familiar with before.

And while I haven't seen it yet, putting in a charging station at a gas station is a pretty good idea. One of the gas stations I go to has the usual mini-mart, but put in a Subway sandwich shop too.

Another thing I'd love to see... Anyone remember the old A&W Drive Ins with the window trays? The parking was set up on either side of a long "island" and the waitress would take the order and then bring the tray of food to the car. Every single one of those parking spots could be a charger. Set up about perfectly to hook up many cars.

What I've noticed is that there aren't a lot of chargers located together. There aren't places for people to get together like they do for car clubs, because there aren't enough chargers to go around to be sure everyone IS charged up at the same time. I think it's a brilliant idea, someone needs to do this (not me, just take the idea and run with it).

Wait! I bet there are tons of Google images...links coming up!

Older picture, but also shows the parking lot diagram of a specific restaurant. All those inner spots could be electric:
http://www.cougartown.com/aw.html

This is an art print, but is a good example of showing the center walkway and overhead roofing (did someone say "solar panels" for the roof?):
http://www.suchiuart.com/index.php?view=page&category=%20country&mf=1&id=273

Oh! An A&W in Malaysia from last year:
http://mrandmrsfood.blogspot.com/2012/09/a-pj-drive-in.html

So maybe we just need more/new A&Ws. After seeing the waffle, I say "YES, more A&W". Indoor and outdoor tables, wifi.

Outside parking spots for regular vehicles, but the inner ones for electrics only. There are cars, motorcycles, even bicycles that could charge up while having lunch. And the business makes a small amount of money off the charging, not just the food and drink.

Even if you aren't on a list at any dealership, if they have all those on the lot, it's a good time to drop by just to take a look. Can see both interiors, with and without a sunroof, how the gray looks with both black and white accents/interiors.

I'll be right over to do some raking. Make a nice level spot for the portable garage, and then I'll be off to make sure the entire road is level too.

I started doing some raking of dirt to try to strengthen up my hands and get a little exercise. I have a half-numb hand, and it's pretty weak. A little raking here and there, and it seems to help make the hands stronger. I'm making a pathway and islands for flower seeds on an unkempt area. I'm hoping something will grow when it rains later this year.

I don't/can't do it everyday, but there's just something about being in nature moving dirt around. Heh.

I avoid the outside usually but recently I got a new puppy so now I actually go outside...hehe. Luckily for me I have a fenced in yard that my neighbor mows, no trees as I had them removed so no raking and as for the dirt road being level...NEVER going to happen, you'll need a large bladed tractor to even make a dent. If you like Legos though get over here and help me put this garage together! :D

And I'd posted about one showing up in transit in this post:
http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?10919-They-re-out-there-waiting!&p=619069&viewfull=1#post619069

Where are you looking is the first question. If you're looking at the inventory online at the Fiat site, it doesn't show all dealers.

According to this article I posted about recently, the biggest seller is the Electric Orange model. That model only comes with the white/orange interior and does not have an eSport package available.
(adding link):
http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?10969-Biggest-selling-Fiat-500e-is-the-wildest

As far as maxing out options, the two exterior colors that are extra cost are the Electric Orange and the Pearl White ($500). The extra cost interior is the white ($395). The eSport package is $495. The eSport comes with a black interior only.

So the most costly version would be the Pearl White eSport $500 + $495
Next is the Electric Orange and the Pearl White with White interior $500 + $395
Then Black, Gray, Silver eSport ($495)
Then Black, Gray, Silver with white interior ($395)
Then Black, Gray, Silver with black interior (no extra charge)

And the sunroof can go on any, for the extra $1000+.

eSport is wheels, stripes, mirror covers, oh, and black light surrounds, with black interior. No change in suspension.

edit addition: Remember too that the Electric Orange is a new color that can be found ONLY on the 500e. And the Steam (white) interior is also only on the 500e. Neither of which is available with the eSport package.

Not to hijack the thread, but since you are also talking about the lease... seems some dealers are not doing the dealer contribution (and why should they since there is a waiting list) but some dealers still are and thus honoring the $199/mo 12,000 miles $999 down lease that was advertised by FIAT. (Options, changes to mileage and taxes extra of course, but we are talking base model).

I started a post on another forum to list the dealers that are still honoring the $199 deal, that way people can make their choice with their feet and wallet. One dealer told me that FIAT was not allocating equally, but to the dealers that are moving the cars... so if you are on waitlist of dealer who is charging more (which is their right), you can take yourself off and go to one that is not (which is your right) and let the new dealer know why you are moving to them.. may mean you have to wait longer, may mean you have to figure out a way to get the car home if it is further away... but its a matter of how much one wants to pay & wait. These could very well become collector cars and worth way more but if you are like me, I don't have much spare change to be paying way over the original lease terms (nor do I really think it is ethical... if I had a bad credit score that is one thing but this funky business of dealer not contributing.. hmm)

So far looks like McKevitt Berkeley, Riverside FIAT, Kearney/Mesa FIAT.. maybe others can chime in. And of course these dealers can always change mind and pull back their contribution, thus increasing the lease payment, if the demand is really high, so best to call first.

Just remember BUYER BEWARE, do your research so you save yourself time before you go to a dealer who is charging more.....Andree is very kind to be looking up where the cars are so that is already a big help.

Picked up a black/black at McKevitt in Berkeley yesterday. So far, so good! Shocked at how quiet it is.

Also, can't say enough about McKevitt. They're not playing any games like asking people to pay above sticker and kept me informed through the whole process. I was #12 on their list, unfortunately they have 160 on the waiting list.

Can't wait to explore this car more in the next few days!

I wondered about the allocation system! I notice some dealers have massive numbers of cars coming in, and others just have one or two. It may be that some areas are just not into electric. Or that they have limited public chargers making it harder to charge on the go.

So McKevitt is chipping in for the 199 lease with the mystery "dealer contribution"? Awesome. And I've seen many cars coming into Riverside and Kearney Mesa on my searches, perhaps this is why people are heading to those dealerships.

You can build a lot of goodwill and repeat business when the dealer and the manufacturer work in tandem. Because it's not just about this sale or this lease...it's about that person coming back and getting another car. Like when the lease is up, they buy the car. Or lease another. Repeat business.

There are people that are just having their first taste of Fiat with the 500e. If they love it, and end up needing a regular gas car, what do you think they'll buy? If the dealer has been good, they'll probably head back to check out the many other forms of the 500. They might pick up the new 500L for the extra space. Bonus with the 500e, the free rental credits. You'll get to try out several cars every year. That's pretty cool.

I don't think they'll be collector cars, because there will be more made next year. And the year after. And so on. But they will be part of the early examples of electric cars for the public.

Glad to be out looking for cars for all the nice people I've seen coming to the forum. Being on a list waiting and wondering probably isn't much fun. But then you see deliveries of 8-12 cars per studio, and if it's your studio, that really moves the list along.

As far as moving to a new list, I'd go for the dealers that are honoring the lease price as suggested by the manufacturer, and have plenty of cars coming in.

I know that I'm not seeing all the cars coming into the Studios. How exactly that all works, I don't know. I just go with what I can find online. It's just a taste of what is out there, I guess.

Excited for everyone!

Woo hoo! Welcome and congrats! I went to McKevitt for my regular 500. I bet they are SO BUSY these days, between the 500e, 500L and all the many other 500 versions.

Tip: As there is no engine sound to indicate just how fast you might be going, you have to pay special attention to the speedometer. I've noticed in my regular gas 500 that the car seems to be going much slower than what is indicated on the speedometer. So the complete silence of the 500e could get you in big trouble, like in school zones. LOL. It says 25, and you end up going 40. It just doesn't seem that fast when there is no engine sound.

Hopefully with truckloads of cars at a time, the list will start moving fairly quickly. Glad to hear you got your new black beauty!

eSport tip:

It's hard to find the eSports just by browsing the usual dealer inventory, without reading the window sticker...until I realized that the eSport will have a unique MSRP.

$32,600 is the starting price for the Black, Gray, Silver. Adding the eSport package of $495 will make a total of $33,095.

$32,600 for Black, Gray, Silver, + $495 eSport + $1,050 sunroof = $34,145

$32,600 + $500 for Pearl White + $495 eSport = $33,595

$32,600 + $500 for Pearl White + $495 eSport + $1,050 sunroof = $34,695

So, those of you out there browsing dealer websites to see what is coming in, you can skip reading the window stickers on every single car, just scan the MSRP prices (if shown). If it says "dealer price" or "internet price" it may NOT be the MSRP, and then you have to check the window sticker.

This will make it much easier, just scanning for $33,095 if you're wanting an eSport in black, gray, silver, no sunroof. If it's $33,195, it will have the white interior and not the eSport package. Easy! Simple!

Also, can't say enough about McKevitt. They're not playing any games like asking people to pay above sticker and kept me informed through the whole process. I was #12 on their list, unfortunately they have 160 on the waiting list.

Can't wait to explore this car more in the next few days!

Serious envy here. Out of curiosity, did you lease or buy? I'm one of the few who seems to want to buy.

Last I checked, I was 108 on McKevitt's wait list. :disgust: Though with you and one other person who posted, I must be at least at 106 now... I researched Yelp pretty carefully before choosing McKevitt. The only nasty reviews I found were for their service dept, not sales.

I leased. I'm worried that battery tech will advance enough in the next three years to make this one look ancient by then. I guess I'm an optimist! Really can't say enough about how great the sales process was. Good luck!

Whether or not the battery tech advances won't change the fact that the car is incredibly useful as it is, with it's current range.

And, if they do create batteries that can increase the range, I'd expect the batteries would be available for the 500e in their new form.

So much is done through a computer. A computer that can be updated.

You don't need a new engine or body or brakes with a new battery twice as effective as the current battery. You just need the new battery.

Sort of like a flashlight that comes with batteries that don't recharge. When the batteries are spent, you can upgrade to rechargeable batteries. If the battery industry increases energy-holding, they'll make the batteries available in the usual forms to fit current applications. And you can then get the new! improved! kind for the same flashlight. You don't have to replace the flashlight.

I think it would be cool to have a pair of 500e's, black with white and white with black. Those are the two on the lot in Berkeley.

RE: Hi guys, I have a quick question- has anyone taken delivery of a 500e with the eSport package? Every time I look for one they don't seem to exist! Why wouldn't Fiat max out the options on all of these cars?

I see, thanks for the clarification :-). It seemed that every time I did a search on the site, there were no eSports.

All I'm tring to find/buy is a Grigio/Nero with a sunroof and eSport :-) why does that combo seem so rare?

Aha! That's where you've been, silently driving around in your new e!

Gaining miles? Instead of using them up? I wonder how long you could go? Without plugging in. That would be super cool, driving around and NEVER having to stop to charge!!!

Keep track of it, and keep us posted. It certainly would be quite the positive result for you and for Fiat if simply driving the car meant no need to charge. Wow.

Even reducing the need to charge would be outstanding. People like me, who have no electrical outlet in a parking garage could own and drive a 500e, without worrying about waking up to a dead car. Charging up every few days or maybe even every week, along with driving similar to you, means the car wouldn't have to be overnight charged!

I just saw your post, days later, so sorry for not seeing it. I would have been posting like crazy all weekend! I'll just have to post crazy right now!

I said this, somewhere way back when, to check the outliers, Fresno, Bakersfield. Then I was all disappointed when no cars were showing up as they were at other Studios.

NO WAIT LIST!

Congrats on your new ride! Speaking of which, I think that's a longer ride than the range, so did you stop to charge on the way home a few times? Or flatbed it back?

Details! I need deets!

BAKERSFIELD!

Spread out over two pages, FIVE in transit.

And, SIX on the lot, two with photos (black/black):
http://www.fiatusaofbakersfield.com/new-inventory/index.htm?start=70

Scroll to the bottom, and then go to the next page to see all they have.

And, just to make sure, I actually called, talked to Bertos Sandoval, said there is no list there currently, they didn't take deposits. They had some people on a list for the last batch and called them up and said "first come, first serve".

There are about four, he said, on the lot currently, and they're available. Now. Right now. He didn't know about what was coming in. But we can see that on their studio site.

So, if you're WAY DOWN on a list somewhere, or aren't on a list at all, and want a 500e NOW, check out Bakersfield. This is more for Southern California folks, of course.

I just checked, and it's 82.1 miles from Bakersfield to Santa Clarita according to Google, and there are a couple of chargers in Santa Clarita according to Fiat. One is a Nissan dealership. LOL. Two are at Kohl's, a retail store. And it's not on the direct route back to LA. There is more than one route possible, so play around with the Fiat charger map (scroll down to "Charging" with the map):
http://www.fiatusa.com/en/2013/500e/

Gets a little dicey going to Mission Hills at 91.7 miles, but there are SIXTEEN chargers at a hospital:
Providence Holy Cross Medical Center
15031 Rinaldi St
Mission Hills, CA 91346
L2 EVSE: 16

Let's get GOING, people!

Yeah, I put a $500 deposit down at OC Fiat a couple months ago. I keep checking the main Fiat website's delivery lists, but I have never seen a Grigio with Nero interior, e-Sport and a sunroof. Are we still at the whim of Fiat and/or the dealer's color and option choices after these initial bunch have been delivered? For instance, could I go in and just order (special order?) the specific 500e I want?

I still don't see why, if these cars are in such high in demand, Fiat is producing so many 500e's without all the options checked off!

Thanks for any insight :offended:

I really don't know. Lots of possibilities. For instance, the first shipment of the 500L had NO Trekkings in it. It was mostly Easy models, with maybe a Pop and a Lounge per dealership. Fiat thinks the Easy model will be the most popular, and it's available in most colors (yellow is a Trekking-only color), and both the manual and the auto stick. Pop is manual only, Lounge is auto stick only. Trekking seems to the sportier/off-road looking vehicle.

So, we have the 500e, coming in bunches, in the most popular models. Perhaps the eSport is coming in more numbers later, like the Trekking.

There is also the possibility of a parts supply difficulty. One or more of the four distinguishing parts, the orange mirror cap, the black w/orange wheels, the orange side stripe, the dark lights, may be delayed.

Let me check, maybe more eSports are coming in now...

White eSport w/sunroof (MSRP 34,695):
http://www.fiatusaoflancaster.com/new/FIAT/2013-FIAT-500e-306ee9120a0a004901d28d3912ad8191.htm

I've never seen that dealership before.

Still looking, all California...

White eSport in San Jose (no sunroof):
http://www.capitolfiat.com/new/FIAT/2013-FIAT-500e-San-Jose-355e9d4a0a0a006400ee8874ab2365ac.htm

They've changed their site, I think, so it's not like the others, and it sucks. They don't provide a link to the window sticker. So I had to pull it up manually, and the car has no sunroof, but is an eSport:
http://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=3C3CFFGE9DT707398

Also, they are not showing the correct image for the eSport vehicles. That's why you HAVE to check the window sticker.

Silver in San Jose (sunroof):
http://www.capitolfiat.com/new/FIAT/2013-FIAT-500e-San-Jose-3037eed30a0a00de00395294c39a0469.htm

Window Sticker:
http://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=3C3CFFGE3DT732135

So, they do seem to be trickling in! Slowly.

Another reason to check window stickers, I was looking for 500Ls earlier, and one dealership had several vehicles listed as manual transmission when they were really the autostick.

Yet another had correctly labelled all their 500Ls as "6 speeds". LOL. Which doesn't tell me if it's an autostick or a manual.

One more thing, remember, you can view all the colors on this page, of ALL the combinations, including the pearl white eSport and the silver eSport:

Give these folks a call in the morning:
http://www.fiatusaofpuentehills.com

They have a 500e pop-up on their site that says they have NO WAITING LIST and to come in to order yours today.

They may be doing it as I thought it would be done, having customers make their choices, fill out all the paperwork, and then order the car from one of the two regional warehouses (northern or southern california).

Certainly is worth a phone call to see how they're doing it and maybe you can just pick up the car you want in a week or so. They have two cars in transit, but if they are waiting for customers to place a specific order, and not ordering cars otherwise, they will NEVER get what you want. You have to tell them in person what you want and do all the paperwork to buy the car.

Hey Andree, thanks for all of that info!

I just got off the phone with Harris, the sales manager at Puente Hills Fiat. He said that their "studio" just opened up two weeks ago and, like you pointed out, are not taking deposits (no waiting list). He said something about being too new to have an allocation from Fiat, so they're just taking them as they come and calling people who have a serious interest in purchasing the 500e.

He confirmed that Fiat is NOT taking any customer special orders until next year. Like you were describing, he said the 500L was the same way in the beginning (but has mellowed out now).

So, I gave him my ideal Grigio/Nero/e-Sport/Sunroof combo and he said he'd call me if he gets anything close to that. He said that he hadn't seen any e-Sports yet and thinks they just might be sending out the low-optioned cars first because that's what Fiat assumes the general public wants. I'd argue that the average buyer of the 500e might skew a little bit higher than the norm ;-)

I have a lot of thinking to do (and a 2001.5 Audi S4 to sell!) before I go hardcore on this purchase- Ideally I'd either sell my Audi and drive an extra car for a couple weeks until the 500e is delivered or get my 500e and trade my Audi in at the time of delivery. I'm worried I'd get my 500e and not be able to sell my Audi in time (don't have two parking spots). I do have my Audi up on Craig's List in Orange County and on Autotrader.com...

Andree
08-08-2013, 08:00 PM
500eee, that's good news, and very useful for many people to know.

I'm sure the Sales Manager would be thrilled to get the new Studio off to a good start.

You might want to stop by any of the dealerships to ask what they'd give you straight out for your Audi. Chances are, it will be a whole lot less than you expect and want. But it at least braces you for what you might get for the vehicle in trade.

It could be thousands less than what you're asking on Craigslist and Autotrader.

So what's the best bet scenario?

One idea is to price the car in between what you originally wanted and what the dealer(s) say they'll give you. It's a bargain then on Craigslist and Autotrader and should sell fast(er). And you'll get MORE than what you would have gotten by going the dealer trade-in route.

That's what I kind of wish I'd done. But I just HAD IT with my former car and it's tortuous seats and needed to get something else immediately.

We KNOW the Grigio eSports are out there, since we've got pictures of TWO here on the forum. And a couple eSports in transit have had sunroofs, so that's also good news.

We just have no guarantee that one single car will come in like you want it. And no guarantee that the same colors/styles will be offered next year.

I'll be checking in on Puente Hills to see what's on the way. You do it too. Between us, we'll spot the car before Harris even knows it's coming. LOL

http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?11047-Old-news-haha-and-500e-numbers&p=622585&viewfull=1#post622585

As far as I know, we don't have an official number of vehicles being made for 2012. But based on what I just read (and another article), it could be as few as 32 cars per dealership, IF the cars were distributed equally. And they aren't.

I'm totally with you on the logic about pricing my Audi to sell.

Yeah, I keep checking the Fiat site for new 500e deliveries. I can't believe that the little 500e avatars often do not reflect the options that go with the car that is listed. And that you have to click through to the "print a window sticker" to get the actual list of options that goes with each car. Why don't they just have the handful of options check-able as a filter in the inventory search in the first place??

BTW, I agree with your post about the Aston Martin Cygnet. I think Fiat could totally make out with some sort of limited, crazy maxed-out version of the 500e!

Off to go check the list again before I turn in for the night... :hypnotysed:

They DO have a list of options you can check off, but it doesn't work. LOL.

When you first are using the Build and Price portion, it's adding those options in, by the three letter code, to the web address and to the program to use for searching inventory.

I chose silver and white interior then clicked on the view inventory:
/hostc/sni/IUX201304/results.do?ccode=IUX201304FFEP24A&llp=2DJ&zipCode=91761&radius=50&options=RAB,E7,WJT,T1A,E99,DAC,APA,XS5,PS2

The url has the car, the zip code (the one I last used searching for cars), the mile radius, and all the codes for the options.

I'm assuming those option codes correspond to the options that are preselected in the Options menu (click the "edit" plus + button to open the menu) shown here:
7337

It gives equal weighting to all the options and computes them in "and/or" and sorts by closest in distance by dealership. For instance, a search for a silver car using the zip code 91761 with the 50 mile radius doesn't show a silver car until the seventh result.

Most of the things it's pulling up as hits are redundant and unnecessary. Like "FWD" or "500e (avail only in california)". ALL. THE. CARS. WILL. HAVE. THOSE. RESULTS. They are all front wheel drive. This isn't something I need to show as being a hit with a check mark next to it in the inventory results search on the Fiat site. All the check marked options are common to all of the cars, other than the interior color selection. So unchecking all the stuff common to the cars won't help my search at all.

At least the colors are simple for the 500e. When I was using the search inventory tool on the Fiat site for my Verde Chiaro, I could only select "green" as an option. There is also Olive. I couldn't specify.

They could do that soooooooo much better, to bring up the results in ranking. Show me the closest silver car to my zip code. Period.

Show me the closest car to my zip code in silver with the white interior. Period.

Maybe it's got to have a sunroof. Show me that car. Period. If one doesn't exist, don't bombard me with other options I did not select.

Maybe I want any color. Maybe I don't care which interior it has. THEN the Fiat site Search New Inventory Results is great. It will show me in distance, all the cars for the Studios using that service.

It gets far more complex with the 500s with many more colors and two transmissions. And nuts with the 500L, with four versions, multiple colors, multiple transmissions.

This is funny. I select the 500L Easy, with a manual transmission, in red. The first result on the Fiat site is a black car. There are plenty of red cars available, but they include ALL the colors, because they meet the other preferences, that are common. It's by closest cars, not really by options.

And there are two red colors. I should be able to specify which red I want when doing the search. I mean, I do have Rosso checked, not Rosso Perla, but both are in the same category of "red". It doesn't differentiate.

I wish I was the boss of them. LOL. I'd love for this website to be a precision instrument.

I'd even have a "Locator/Builder for Dummies" that could walk people through finding a car. So people would go to the site and choose the car via questions. It's not the consumer who is the dummy either, it's the current program used in build and locate that is the dummy. Use the Elimination method instead. If/then programming.

What kind of 500 do you want?
Select: Hardtop Convertible Doesn't matter (answer: hardtop)

What color do you want?
Select: One of the many colors or Doesn't matter/show all colors (answer: rosso)
If one color is selected: Do you have a second color choice? Yes No (answer: no)
If yes: Select one of the many colors

What transmission do you want?
Select: Manual Automatic Doesn't matter/show all (answer: automatic)

What kind of interior do you want?
Cloth Leather Doesn't matter/show all (answer: doesn't matter show all)

What color of interior accent do you want?
Black Ivory Doesn't matter/show all (answer: ivory)

What color do you want for your interior seating?
Black, brown, red, gray, doesn't matter/show all (answer: red)

Like that. And each successive question eliminates all the cars that do not fulfill the requirements. So that your end results on the Fiat site will consist only of red hardtop automatics with ivory ambiance and red seating. Period. Nothing else.

If it turns out the only car with that configuration happens to be in Topeka, I may want to reset some or all of those options. Rank the colors, with a first choice, second choice, third choice, fourth choice. Even a "do not show" certain colors, in that I did not want black exterior. I definitely wanted the ivory ambiance in my car, don't even think about showing me a black ambiance.

I also want a map. That will show an overhead view of my location based on zip code and the locations of the cars found.

It would be so simple for people to find what they wanted. And it would give constant feedback to Fiat on what people are looking for, or looking at.

500eee

I'd also add a "saved search" and a "email me when this car becomes available"

Saved Search would have up to three preferences, of cars you've saved. Like games. You can make a title for each saved search, such as "Bob's Blue Pop" or "Manual 500L" or "Local eSports". Done with cookies. I don't need an account for a game site, I just go there, and it pulls up the saved games, no sign in required.

Email notification, ONLY for notifying of cars, not for sales or promotions. Why spend all that time checking and rechecking a constant flow of cars at multiple dealerships, when I could just check and recheck my mail? At least it's just ONE thing to check.

Preferences could include "alert me when it's in transit" (on a truck somewhere) and "alert me when it's on the lot". Along with specifying the distance I'd travel, or specific dealerships I'd prefer to go to.

Prefs could also include specifying a range of miles AND distances from various zip codes. For instance, you live in one place, but commute to another. You might be willing to drive 75 miles from your home, or your work. So it would be an oval shape on a map of where you'd be willing to travel. NOT a single giant circle.

Sort of like this:
7341

Okay, that's two circles in blue, not an oval. But if you lived in Fresno and commute to Tulare, and are willing to go a distance from either of those two bases, you can see that the distance south from Tulare goes outside the white circles (that's the 500e charging map, showing I believe the vehicle range). And not at all reaching into the northern, western, or eastern regions.

You may also want a locator that knows state boundaries.

There could be smart-mapping. I could enter my zip code, and place dots along various highways as to how far I'd drive. Using the same map, maybe I'd gladly drive from Fresno to Merced. But not willing to drive off-road cross country there to Coalinga.

I don't have a lot of faith in the site, though, not as it is. I've tried to escape Fresno several times, and it will not take my home zip code. Last night I was in Ontario.

500e fans, pay attention. We have a thread running over here:
http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?11047-Old-news-haha-and-500e-numbers

Lots of numbers being tossed around about potential production totals for 2013. The latest is the possibility that only about 500 cars were made. If true, that means about 20 cars per dealership...and that just about all the cars that are available for 2013 are out there. Now.

Because we've seen big "in transit" numbers already of up to 13 or so. That would be most of a dealers entire shipment for the year. One way to check is to see if there are more incoming cars, more in transit.

And if no more are being shipped, that's going to be it, unless another batch is in the works or on the seas or whatever.

You can have your new car from a farther dealership trucked via autohauler or flatbed to your location, after buying it. I just don't want to see anyone not get the car that really wants one. I also worry that when the last few cars are available, the prices will be marked up, not marked down.

We still have only rumors and hearsay, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yes. And no. Most of the dealerships have waiting lists, and the information I've posted was helpful to those folks in seeing how many cars are coming in, and in what colors. So they would have a heads-up if it was about their turn and their car was about to arrive.

However, Fresno, Bakersfield, Puente Hills don't have waiting lists. One forum member from Sunnyvale picked up a car in Fresno just last week, see this post:
http://www.fiat500usaforum.com/showthread.php?10919-They-re-out-there-waiting!&p=621783&viewfull=1#post621783

I don't know if the car was driven back or trucked back. No list. Just called the night before, and drove out the next day to pick it up.

SF to Fresno is about 187 miles. About a three hour drive. And it would be less than $500 to have the car shipped back on a vehicle hauler. Here's one site that shows a few price examples without having to input any data:
http://www.uship.com/vehicles/california/fresno

You can also call the dealership ahead of time to ask if there is anyone they work with to ship cars that they recommend.

Or you can turn it into a road trip. For the drive back. You'll need to stop to charge, of course. And you can get ideas on where you'll stop via the Fiat charging map on the 500e page here (scroll down to map):
http://www.fiatusa.com/en/2013/500e/

Oh! Maybe not. The charger within range from Fresno is at a Nissan place. LOL. We're SO LUCKY here in the Bay Area to have so many chargers. Central California is still working on the charger network.

So, looks like auto transport!

Here are Fresno's electrics:
http://www.fiatusaoffresno.com/new-inventory/index.htm?start=0&SByear=clear&SBmake=clear&SBmodel=clear&SBtrim=Battery%20Electric&SBbodystyle=clear&SBprice=clear

Tell 'em "Andrée sent you".

Not that they know who I am, just think it would be funny for them to get all confused when you say that. haha.

Thanks for the info marc04!

Well, we know where the cars are available, might be time to head out to the outlying dealerships with no waiting lists.

Looks like the person who bought from Fresno is in a group over here:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/115966269255866480388?partnerid=gplp0

And she did indeed have the vehicle trucked from Fresno. I have no idea how to link to specific things over there. Just scroll down to the pictures of the orange w/sunroof car.

Said it cost $495 to truck it. There's a picture of the truck it came on too.

Yep that was me. I got my Arancio from Fresno. Dustin Monroe was my sales guy and they shipped it to me on a little flatbed for the $495. I really wanted a sunroof and for some reason Capitol kept getting non-sunroof models. But Fresno had what I wanted. I had a trade-in so I had to drive all the way out there to sign paperwork and drop off my old car. Had I not had the trade-in, they would have sent the paperwork with the car without me having to go to Fresno.

Keep in mind, I did not get an intro to any Sevice department like some others have had (I use Capitol for that), nor did they help me fill out any DMV sticker, CA Rebate, or CEC charger applications. They helped me pair my phone via Bluetooth and helpede set up my Fiat Access account. They did not know about the modems yet and neither did I so I had Capitol enable my modem.

Other than some of the administravia, the transaction was smooth. Oh! And they honored the lease terms! Double bonus.

Thanks globug for swinging back by!

Sometimes you have to go to where the cars are. People who do show cars, they truck their cars all over. And ship by truck when buying/selling.

Fresno seems like a pretty good studio. From honoring the lease terms to getting cars to people out of the area.

So glad you were able to find the car you wanted at the advertised price. Certainly makes it worthwhile to make the trip!

Yea it was worth it for me as I knew I didnt want to just have to take a color I was not jazzed about. Plus im partial to sunroofs and really wanted one. At the time, they had no wait list (11 days ago) with the current delivery situation, Im not sure what their situation is. But the $495 ship fee was worth it to get what I wanted and get it sooner than later. In my mind, my sunroof cost me $1495 rather than $1000 and Im okay with that. Oh, they did not roll that cost into the lease by my request... wanted to keep my monthly's low so I paid out of pocket for the delivery.

Remember, all the eSports come with black interior. If it's an eSport, the interior is black. So, all you need do is look for an eSport.

No need to panic. The cars will be checked, the bolts replaced, and all that.

Secondly, some folks may back out of the 500e. Just from the recall.

This article came out yesterday:

"There seems no let up in the kind of vehicles that are recalled, although this is always to be expected when you consider cars are made up of thousands of parts, which are produced by so many different companies. Something has got to give and so this should never surprise us."

from: http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/08/15/fiat-500e-recall-for-august-2013-is-minor/

You, and I, and the rest of the forum here are focused on the Fiat. So it seems like a huge deal.

But let's take a look at what else is recalled and why:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallmonthlyreports.cfm

It should show six months of recalls, sorted by month, in pdf format.

Here's a doozie:
"The screws used in mounting the handlebar risers may break after
installation. If the screws break, the handlebars may separate from the motorcycle, making it difficult for the
operator to control the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash."
(yeah, it might be just a tad difficult to control with no handlebars)

How to learn to fly:
"motorcycle antilock braking system (ABS) modulators, part number
NK2R3, manufactured June 18, 2012, through March 22, 2013. Due to aluminum filings remaining inside the
modulators from the manufacturing process, ABS functionality may be lost. A loss of ABS operation may result
in the motorcycle wheels locking up during hard braking increasing the risk of a crash."

Blow out sale!
"Due to a perforation in
the sidewall, the tires may lose pressure while driving. A loss of tire air pressure may lead to sudden tire failure,
increasing the risk of a crash. "

Holy crap:
"Due to a design change in the power awning motor assembly, the motor
assembly screws may unknowingly shear. If the motor assembly screws shear, it is possible that the awning can unfurl unexpectedly, either while the vehicle is at rest or while in transit, increasing the risk of personal injury or a
vehicle crash."
(this one cracks me up, who knew we had to watch out for unfurling awnings while on the freeway?)

You could get stuck inside your own RV:
"If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. A person inside the
recreational vehicle at the time will then be locked in and be unable to exit the vehicle without using the
emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury. "

The wheelchair lift you're on could burst into flames:
"bus equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift with
an optional armored pendant cable. The armored cable may be positioned such that it does not clear the
wheelchair lift. If the cable does not clear the wheel chair lift it may contact the power lug and if it does not have
a nonconductive cover, or it has an improperly installed non-conductive cover, then a short circuit may occur that
could result in a fire."

And for crying out loud, stay away from the interior bus air con:
"The affected buses are equipped with a rear interior air conditioner evaporator which may
come loose from its ceiling mounting over time. The evaporator unit may detach from the ceiling and fall
increasing the risk of injury."

And a real life Spy Hunter car:
"Lotus Cars USA, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2011 Evora supercharged vehicles equipped with a manual
transmission and manufactured September 2010 through September 2011. The engine oil cooler hose may chafe
and rupture resulting in oil loss. Engine oil may be ejected onto the road or rear wheels which could cause a
reduction in vehicle control and potential engine failure, increasing the risk of a crash. Engine oil sprayed onto a
heat source may also lead to a vehicle fire. The remedy for this recall campaign is still under development. The
manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule."

Loose bolts are suddenly not so scary. All the computer flash updates not scary at all.

And those above ones were from a quick scan of just July, about halfway through the list.

So you see, there are plenty of recalls, and many things are much MUCH worse.

The thing that might tie up the repairs is that the cars are at individual dealerships. The cars can't be run through an assembly line, where there is a pro (or a machine) that does the work with tons of experience. It may take a lot longer for each car to be serviced, and it will be totally new to each and every mechanic, because the 500e is totally new. Everyone will be getting a thorough 500e half-shaft bolt education.

But I'm still pulling for you, and we'll try to find you your eSport. Your first choice was Grigio. And you really want the sunroof.

How about the rest of the exterior colors? Black, silver, white?

Black would be totally stealth. Silver much lighter than the Grigio. White would be contrasts, black exterior accents, black interior, black sunroof, black lights, white body color. And those orange stripes, mirror cover, and black wheels with the orange accent.

Sunroofs make the front of the roof look black. Like the new Cattiva.

Hey Andree, good point(s)! In fact, your examples reminded me that I have gone through a recall before- I was on a waiting list years ago for the new (to America) Lotus Elise.

Because of my color selection (Grey w/red interior - notice a trend here???), I ended up taking the very first delivery for the whole Washington, D.C. area! And then there was a recall almost immediately and everyone was freaking out on the Lotus forums :ambivalence: ... I survived.

Yes, in order of want: Grigio, Black, Silver. I don't like the white with the black e-Sport front thingy- that's a little too contrasty for me.

I am hanigin' in here :nevreness:

I don't mind recalls because it is like an update I don't have to pay for. The best recalls are when the car is old and off warranty and they replace expensive stuff. I would love to put 50,000 miles on my car and they recall it to
replace coil packs, the ecu or maybe even the engine! LOL
