I didn't pick up the car yet but if anyone knows me from the LS/TRUCK forums knows that I have all aftermarket parts before I even pick up the car.

Here's a run down on the mods I will be ordering today and thru the week. I limited myself to a 5k spending limit which looks like I can get a lot for that money.

1) BC COILOVERS
2) ATM HCI INTAKE
3) MPx TB
4) LED INTERIOR KIT
5) WILWOOD BRAKES
6) NEUSPEED SHORT SHIFTER
7) DEBATING ON ECU UPGRADE
8) TINTING ALL WINDOWS
9) MADNESS AXLE BACK
10) ANY OTHER IDEAS FROM YOU GUYS JUST SHOOT

Main thing I'm looking for better power and gas mileage at same time. I'll keep everyone updated on my progress

I would recommend BC coilovers over the madness ones. Also, no need for larger brakes on these cars unless you are doing it solely for looks. Good pads and maybe rotor upgrades if you are tracking it.
I would also suggest a throttle pedal upgrade. I use the sprint booster and love it but have heard the Go Pedal also works well.

Enjoy your new car!

this. never understood big brake upgrades unless there was a legitimate need. without owning the car yet, how can you be sure thats an area you need to address? short of racing, there is nothing pad fluids and lines cant solve for a street car. hell, even a race car. unless its a bling factor thing of course.
+1 on going for better coilovers. i have KWs, but that was my preference. there are plenty of threads discussing this.

anyway, welcome. assuming youre looking for a grigio abarth?

Be careful while driving with upgraded big brake kits during race or spirited runs. Our cars are very lightweight fwd machines w/ a tendency to hook and roll over as experienced by the Rimicci Corse Abarth at Thunderhill. Good choice in BCs!

Good tires and a lightweight wheel like an Enkei RPF1 or NT03 would be great for MPG and speed. The RPF1 would also really show off that sexy BBK!

Where in NorCal are you? I'm in the south bay area, it would be awesome to hang out with another Abarth owner who also has other modded cars.

Good choice in the R/R rear axle back exhaust! The Abarth is perfect for zipping around SF. When I lived there, I owned a 67 Mini Cooper S and had a blast driving it in and around the City and the Bay Area.

Someone just made $200 bucks... since you got the road race axel back you should have picked up the road race intake and engine cover that combo looks dead sexy.

Yes... and you can go to the INJEN website and look through their product Listings... No ABARTH.

Now I recall seeing the Injen CAI for the Abarth on another thread. It's similar to the R/R CAI design.

Is that a metal pipe on the Injen intake? From what I can tell, it isn't much different than a stock set-up with a K&N drop-in. Hopefully that's not a metal pipe... last time I ran a metal pipe with a P-flow on my MKIV Gti, I lost power after the 1st hard run. I can only imagine it would be even worse under our hoods. This design looks like it might keep the air relatively cool up until the filter, but from there until the inlet, is where the heat aspect might come into play. Injen makes decent parts though, and they usually dyno test them. They contacted me about 5 months ago to use my car, but it was a bit too out of the way for me to lend it to them. Surprised they went this way, design wise, instead of their usual cold-air approach. Looks like fitment will be nice and clean.

If it is not ceramic coated then just wrap the intake piping and as for cool air the looks of it suggest that it is fairly well insulated from heat when the hood closes on the rubber gaskets. Under and behind the filter though I do think they could have done a bit better as that is what you are referring to shagghie. For $200 that'd make me pretty happy though I still like my RRM intake and think it'd have been a great option to go along with the exhaust as BigT stated. Their new engine covers look amazing!

well just got finished with some of my appearance mods. This car as well as all my others i buy new i take the calipers off clean the rotors and paint them. You will notice esp. the front rotors rust easy. By spraying them and then the pad wipes away the paint with no negative results just a clean look. I've been doing this on my cars since the early 90s.

So brand new the rotors look like this
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a104/NORCALSTI/ABARTH/20130528_191658.jpeg (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/NORCALSTI/media/ABARTH/20130528_191658.jpeg.html)

i then take off the calipers and paint the rotors so looks like this

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a104/NORCALSTI/ABARTH/20130528_194642.jpeg (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/NORCALSTI/media/ABARTH/20130528_194642.jpeg.html)

also i painted the front/rear reflectors
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a104/NORCALSTI/ABARTH/20130528_194628.jpeg (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/NORCALSTI/media/ABARTH/20130528_194628.jpeg.html)

I think if you painted your stock wheels semigloss black, lower the car, put 15mm spacers in the rear, you will have a nice wide look, especially if you finish off with a set of mudflaps:

akin to this:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h6/shagghie/2A7157B9-8B76-4E38-AB3F-44DD2E674FA7-3772-000001DB7A2BF021.jpg

They make white Poly flaps with Scorpions on them like these too;

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h6/shagghie/EE564C38-969E-4CFC-9FFB-ACB00EB16478-1149-0000009EC96EEBD6.jpg

this way u can get a wide look, and run 215's the next time you buy tires for a little more grip.
You also save some coin for the ATM FMIC coming out soon... the ultimate in bling and performance.... (just sayin')

You can't go too wrong no matter what, your car is already looking ace!

EDIT: chk out the lester Agressive rear diffusors to for more rump in your bump.

Kws came in and Im having the yellow springs coated red to match the calipers and also I took the rear torsion bar and having that powder coated to match since you can see that from under the car

I noticed the back hubs of wheels are sprayed black but not a nice job so masked it off (i had entire wheel covered before i painted) and painted the back black came out nice

Well I painted my bolts and washers black (engine enamel). I think I am going to paint my cover as originally planned. I need to locate a rivet gun to attach my back plates. I won't be painting those, they are Carbon Fiber. The rivet heads are black so that's good. I think I would like to locate either black rubber or plastic washers though as I feel the metal will scratch the finish of the shield. :( Going to take awhile to make the changes, I could slap it on before this weekends C&C but I really think I'll do it right. Look forward to seeing yours installed.

Lookin great Norcal!!! Keep it up!!! For what it is worth, I contacted my friend at JMB Performance and Powdercoat to see if he has interest in creating some really cool bling for the Fiat's engine bay. As soon as I hear back I'll provide more info. He had some awesome products for the SRT guys and might be able to help out the Fiat gang.

Well got the 500madness coils to test out from joseph. He said they sat high so i ended up cutting 1/4 loop off both top springs and put it back in the car and measured at 25 inches from ground to fenderlip i then pulled the springs and removed the isolators out completly and car sat at 23 7/8 from ground to fenderlip just a little to low.

I ended up cutting 1/8 more loop off both tops and then 3/8 off bottom first coil and put it back in the car without the top rubber isolator but used tubing and the oem lower rubber spring perch and now car sits at 24 5/16 from ground to fenderlip in rear. Im going to pull the lower rubber isolator out and but the rubber tubing on that and then up top use the oem spacer since it looks like the design will let the car sit down a little more.

IM very pleased with the ride and due to the car having bc coilovers in I can adjust the ride to keep it nice. IM going to prob put the neuspeed 28mm bar in this weekend.

Interesting setup - thanks!

NORCAL SS

in rear right now i have
BC SHOCKS
cut 3/8 of a loop from top and bottom madness 500 springs
stock lower rubber spring isolators
top heater hose cut in half to cover coils that would touch body

Right now sitting at 24 3/8 from ground to fenderlip in rear. I will be removing the stock lower rubber perches tonight and wrapping the first coil with the heater hose and then using the oem top rubber perch and seeing if it drops it to about 24 to 24 1/8 thats what im shooting for

starting to dial in the bc coilvoers and rear bc shocks with madness 500 springs. Due to cutting the springs spring rate has increased a little and it really hugs the corners. My wife is used to my ctsv getting sideways on curves due to the power but this car just goes the corner no issue and she was like... holy **** tony thats nuts!!!

That being said i got the 28mm neuspeed bar and powdercoated it to match the calipers and should be slapping that in this weekend...Ohhh yah i forgot 205 40 17 oem tires are to narrow for me i ordered the 215 40 17 bfg g forces. yah im going to sit the car down on the bumpstops with no springs in so at that point i know thats the lowest the rear can get and that will tell me exactly what i need to run spacer wise. Also I DO NOT want to roll the fenders. BFG tires run wider than other brands noticed that over past 15 years with their tires and the g force is no different. On my old trailblazer ss the 285 35 22 were 7/8 wider than the hankooks and 1/2 inch wider than the yokohamas that being said I just want to stuff it in the back,,,side note id love to stick 10 inch wides on this car with 305s lol

Its pretty darn flush in front it barly taps the fenderlip. Ill roll the fender a little to see if that helps before changing the camber. Wow, nice drop and flush fit. That's about the lowest drop I've seen in the rears. BC COs w/ cut Madness springs? How's the ride quality? Any bottoming out on the bump stops and/or rubbing issues? The BFG G force tires have a very nice tread pattern.

Putting the 215/40/17 on the OEM 17x7 loses .25 of tread width from measured specs but nonetheless, looking good. I could never rock that kind of flush because I'm 6-4, 260. :( though mine squats nicely when I'm in it. Just right.

im 6'4 and 200. I had my buddy 6'2 280 in the car today and its fine. instead of going more negative camber in front to clear i ended up just rolling the fender and trimmed the metal tab off in the front of the well that sticks out and no issues at all.

bfg tires always run wide in the g force line. the 285 35 22 i had on my old truck were over 1 inch wider than the nittos or yokohama that they had on display also

Agree. Their 205/45/16 Sport Comp is a great choice to replace the 195/45/16 and I intend to do so eventually. Tread width on the tarmac difference between that and the OEM 16-inch Pirelli is nearly an entire inch even though the millimeter difference is listed as 10.

Well cant finish rear brakkes because missing bolts so ended up working on my engine stuff. put the silicone tube kit in and painted the oil cap/dipstick top/battery terminals black. Also painted the intake black along with all nuts/washers/back plate on top cover. I also removed the battery tag. just trying to give it a cleaner look. Ill finish up the intake tomm but for now here we go. only thing i think I will be painting are the yellow tabs on the ecm tabs and taking out the rad. tank and painting it black.

I like the fact that from the side all you see is wheel and calipers can't really see the brake rotors unless you look really hard. Also not sure why fiat didn't carry the black housing for the headlights, tails and DRL's over to the Abarth as well I think it looks really clean. NOTE IF YOU WANT A LOUD INTAKE THIS WILL DO IT. the road race intake sounds 70 percent louder its insane!!!!!! also heat just pours out of the engine bay you can feel the windshield warm from it. If your doing drag racing blast or road course event id do this. Will keep under hood temps lower and gets cold air into the intake

What exhaust are you going with? I was checking out the Magnaflow you mentioned but I cant find any actual photos of it anywhere. I was looking at the MM Bombardone but it is very expensive and there is alot of discussion about how it is only a two inch pipe at the mid pipe-downpipe connection. The rest of the system appears to be consistant and mandrel bent but I am not sure if it is 2 1/4 or 2 1/2. Do you happen to know what the size of the factory downpipe is at the midpipe connection? That size will help with my exhaust choice.

well lets start off with todays project. Got the 4 gauge wire all tucked away nice
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a104/NORCALSTI/ABARTH/20130808_180256.jpeg

now on the rear dont know what fiat was thinking but I wanted to take one side off to show you guys (you dont need to take the speakers out though you can do below in car)

so you take out the oem speaker your left with this
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a104/NORCALSTI/ABARTH/20130808_182211.jpeg

Now you dont want to mess this assembly up so I ended up just getting a dremmel and following the line that is right under the foam so when your done you have something like this
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a104/NORCALSTI/ABARTH/20130808_183648.jpeg

Now you have to also clean some of the outer tabs so spaker fits flush and inside there are some ridges that stick up so if it holds the speaker up just file it down. Now i just drilled a hole on the bottom of the assembly and ran wire thru it and sealed it up. So speaker is like in its own box

And finished product

I would also suggest putting second skin in the back where the plastic housing is for the middle brake light. Finally found that to be a very annoying location for rattles with my 10" sub. Be careful when removing it too. There are two (very obvious) screws but the ends of the trim piece are held in with horrible, cheap plastic clips (both of which I broke). That silly little piece really gets going with a punchy kick drum playing.

NORCAL SS
08-14-2013, 09:54 AM
im not changing the factory downpipe. If the 2.5 is to big im going to just cut at the flange and do a 2.5 pipe to it. The 2.5 and 2.25 flange has same outer size and length so ill see how it goes. I think oem downpipe is 2 inches but im going to see about opening it up.

was bored so slapped the springsin. My car has no exhaust on it since im doing a custom cat back but took it for a ride and yes DEFF the best ride ive been in. Car rides great!!! 24 1/8 from ground to fenderlip with 1/4 tank of gas. I do a lot of suspension work on trucks/suvs/ctsvs and honestly madness coils being linear not progressive like others helps the ride a lot. NOt sure why so many companies use progressive springs on this car.

IM going to let them settle for a few days and then prob going to cut them a little. I need to get the car to about 23 3/4 to 23 7/8

I had two local cars with madness springs fail. The springs collapsed and lost all strength... just an FYI. Otherwise, I love Madness and buy tons of stuff from them. These springs are for show and no go lol

Will you please post a picture of the car from the rear, showing the lower part of the car with the tires visible. I want to see the stance with the 215s...

the springs handle great i have some messed up roads around me and cornering im very happy with. the customers car i converted to coilovers had them for over 10k miles with no issues. Deff not all show

This is not reassuring for me as I have the madness aggressive springs on mine. :-/ knock of a lot of wood I guess.

A picture like if you were standing behind the car, show the butt of the car and get low so I can see the tire width... lol

I figured 2.5" drop in the rear the fender would be hugging the factory 17" wheel a bit more. Maybe it's just because they haven't completely settled in yet.

My car stock was 26 3/8 with stock tires. The 215 40 17 liftes it up 1/4 inch. That being said springs so far are a true 2.25 drop and ride better then neuspeed or eibach which I tested in my car and other abarths I lowered.

im going to cut 3/4 of a loop tonight and see where that gets me.

I have less than a 1/4 tank of gas and I know from empty to a full tank car comes down 1/4 of a inch.

If you are in the NoVA area anytime, you can look at mine. I have a set of Madness springs (aggressive, 2.0" drop).

Yeah I'm hardly ever up that way. Do you have any pictures of the car sitting on level ground from a few different angles?

Wait? You have the aftermarket deck working with the steering wheel controls now? Fully? What functionality do you retain. More importantly, is your ODO flashing?

New bumpstops? Modified?

NORCAL SS
10-08-2013, 01:14 PM
Yes im testing new bumpstops to get the most travel and not have the jarrimg feeling as oem cut ones do. Makes a nice difference in rear ride quality when you hit those big bumps and most travel before tire rub.
